Sept. 2 Glamis area, Imperial Co., Calif.
The hottest time of the day in mid-summer, the difference presumably would have been greater.
We did no night collecting this trip, so we established camp early in the evening.
Sept. 3 We began driving the road between the two canals at 0800. Very few Phrynosoma m'calli were seen all morning, even though we drove until 1100. By then the sand was too warm for many lizards to be active on it. We captured 2 adults (♀) and 2 juveniles during this entire period. One adult ♀ was seen DOR just after it had been run over. No other DOR's were seen. Relatively few lizards of any kind were seen while we drove the road—live or DOR.
After lunch we drove to Split Mountain Road, south of Ocotillo Wells, San Diego, Co., Calif. I have collected P. m'calli along this road in the past, so thought maybe we would do better here. However, we looked for P. m'calli from 1400 to 1800 without seeing one. We decided to set up camp at that time, so we pulled into Anza-Borrego State Park.
