Aug. 21 Glamis area, Imperial Co., Calif.
one pass between the canals, looking
for Phrynosoma m'celli. We caught
4 of them at this time.
Aug. 22 We arose at 0600 after a rather
miserable night. The mosquitoes
almost carried us away. We camped
in the creosote bush scrub 8 miles
west of Glamis where we have
camped many times before. Never
have I seen so many mosquitoes,
hovever, in fact, I've encountered
mosquitoes here only once before in
5 years. We looked for P. m'celli
from 0700 to 0930. We had to dodge
many gravel trucks during this
period. We caught 4 P. m'celli &
saw one DOR. We returned to UCR
at 1540 after a trip of 560 miles.
Sept. 4 For McLanahan & I left UCR at
1400 because a widespread rain storm
threatened to release precipitation
near Glamis. Although rain fell
from Los Angeles to Brawley, no
rain fell at Glamis. We drove
further east, hoping to find spots
where it had rained in Sceloporus
couchi habitat, but we were unsuccessful.
We spent the night camped at Milpitas
Wash, 12 mi. south of Palo Verde.
