Blue Ridge, Los Angeles Co., Calif.
Donna Hobbs, Bill Truesdell,
Pete Allen + I left UCR at 0920
to try to catch some ? Sceloporus
occidentalis above 7,000 feet. Male S.
occidentalis caught last week up
there contained motile sperm in the
vas deferens, just as the males
(S. occidentalis) caught this week on
campus, 2 Campus ?? contained eggs
in the oviducts, so I was very
anxious to see if the same
situation prevailed at 7,000 feet.
Female S. occidentalis again were
not seen in large numbers (last
trip up Walt Mobley + I didn't
see a single ? S. occidentalis). However,
we caught several (8) this time. By
1630, when we quit looking for
animals we had captured the following:
Sceloporus occidentalis - 28 (20 ?, 8 ?)
Sceloporus graciosus - 18 (11?, 6 ?, 1juv.)
Uta stansburiana - 6 (2 ?, 4 ?)
Enneeca skiltonianus - 1
Total 53
We reached UCR at 1730, after a
trip of 110 miles. One adult Sceloporus
occidentalis was seen eating a half-
grown Uta stansburiana. The S.
occidentalis escaped us, however.
