Mayhew 1963 Journal 43. Sept. 18 Glamis area, Imperial Co., Calif. in large quantities by S. couchi, according to Lonnie. We returned to UCR at 1345 with 17 S. couchi, 8 of which were paired. The trip covered 418 miles. Sept. 24 Lon McClanahan, Lloyd Tevis and I left UCR at 0015 in order to release some adult Scaphisopus couchi and see where they go. We reached Purgatory Wash (6 mi. east of Glamis) at 0430 and released the first toads at 0515, the last at 0640. By 0725 all the toads were wild, so we began looking for pools with tadpoles in them. The only pools with tadpoles we could find were against the east side of the Algodones Dunes. However, we heard of some others, but didn't have time to check them out. Everett Van der Poel told us of a pool 6 mi. N.W. of Glamis, & Saylor told us of a pool near Purgatory Flat, both of which had tadpoles in them. None of the washes we examined east of the Chocolate Mts. contained pools with tadpoles. We returned to UCR at 1750 after a trip of 432 miles.
