July 19 Glamis area, Imperial Co., Calif.
Walt Molerby, Fritz Zaebat, Dave Reuther &
I left UCR at 0900 for our monthly
collecting trip. We drove along Vauner Road
(between 1000 Palma & Garnet) looking for
lizards on the way down to Glamis. We
looked for animals along this road from
1000 to 1200. We stayed beside the
Highline Canal until the soil surface temp.
dropped to 45°C. Then we looked for lizards
along the road from 1510 to 1710. Then
we walked in the dunes, looking for Uma
notata & Urosaurus graciosa until sun-
down (1850). After we ate, we drove the
road looking for Colonyx variegatus.
The weather was just about ideal
for night collecting, but we found only
2 animals. We drove the road from
1955 to 2120. Maximum temp. today was
only 103°F., minimum temp. tonight was 80°F.
Today 4 juvenile Callisaurus draconides
were seen along the road, as well as one
juvenile Uma notata.
July 20 We arose at 0520 & ate breakfast. We
began looking for lizards along the road
at 0625. We made 3 passes between the
canals without seeing very many lizards.
We caught only 5 Phrynosoma m'calli,
1 Diposaurus dorsalis & a couple of
Crestophytus wislizeni. We quit looking
