Sept. 6
Palm Springs, Riverside Co., Calif.
Dave Reuther & I left UCR at 0610,
and reached our collecting site at
0715. We spent most of the morning
(untill 0945) driving the roads & walking
between creosote bushes in Palm Springs
Panorama. All the Uma inornata collected
today were captured there. The 1 Phrynosom
m'calli caught today was found along
Vista Chino Ave. a short distance
west of the Panorama entrance. We
looked for Dipsoaurus dorsalis, from
0945 untill we quit at 1130, in the
residential area north of Vista Chino
Ave. We captured 23 lizards of 3
species, as follows:
Phrynosoma m'calli - 1 (♀)
Uma inornata - 8 (5 ♂, 3 ♀)
Dipsoaurus dorsalis - 14 (5 ♂, 2 ♀ 3 im, 4 juv.)
The trip covered 116 miles. We reached
UCR at 1240. The Dicoria canescens
in the Panorama has grown very dense
from all the watering that occurs
there. New Astragalus sp. plants
are beginning to appear. Most of the
Larrea divicicata is in excellent
shape for the same season. The
weather was quite mild all morning.
The air temperature (1meter) when we quit
was only 106° F.
