Mayhew 1962 Journal 13. April 22 Lovejoy Buttes area, Los Angeles Co., Calif. late in the afternoon. We missed only one or two that might possibly have been F. The S. majestic all seemed more abundant during the late afternoon. During the morning, however, relatively few animals were seen. This may have been due to the fact that the air temp. last night got down to about 35°F. There are lots of annuals growing & blooming in this region. A number of species are represented. There should be lots of reptile food produced this spring. We left this region at sundown, & headed for 29 Palms. We reached 29 Palms about 2200. After eating we camped at Indian Cove in Joshua Tree National Monument. Min. temp. tonight - 56°F. (sundown - 1825.) April 23 Dale Dry Lake area, San Bernardino Co., Calif. We arose at 0610 & ate breakfast. Then we drove to our collecting site at Dale Dry Lake. We began looking for lizards at 0800, and looked until 1225. Uma scoparia were not too numerous (we saw 42 during this period), but we were able to capture several. Dipsoosaurus dorsalis became reasonably abundant late in the morning. We returned to UCR at 1620 after a trip of 416 miles.
