Mayhew 1963 Journal 6. Mar. 13 Palm Springs, Riverside Co., Calif. Herta Caylor, Shirley Hill & I left UCR at 0820 and spent most of the day looking for Uma inornata in Palm Springs Panorama. Between 0915 and 1700 we saw a total of 85 Uma inornata. We were able to capture 16 of them. In addition, we saw one Crotalus cerastes, which we left in the area in which we found it, and 4 Dipsosaurus dorsalis. The weather was perfect all day. Lots of Uma were seen in the Panorama, but very few were seen in the typical desert area around this site. Almost no evidence of Uma was seen in the short while we spent at "Grandaddy Dune" - few animals or tracks. We reached UCR at 1800 after driving 151 miles. A group of Dipsosaurus dorsalis that had been used in an experiment were released in the Panorama. They were placed beside Laarea on Tecahwah Drive just south of the eastern-most large sign on that street - about 1 1/2 blocks from the eastern boundary of the development. About 15 middle- sized immature animals were involved. There appeared to be enough food in this vicinity to meet their needs.
