Colorado Desert, San Diego & Imperial Co., Calif.
Hot Springs & Earthquake Valley to the
Coyote Mts. (near Coyote Wells, Imperial
Co., Calif.), I had heard about
Phyllodactylus tuberculosis being
collected in these hills, but we
couldn't find any sites that even
looked promising. Therefore, we drove
to Highway 80, then west toward
Jacumba. We pried flakes off rocks
for some time, but found no animals.
Then we drove Highway 98 toward
Calexico, looking for animals as we
went. Two Diposaurus were all we
cought, or even saw. We then drove
east of Calexico on highway 98, looking
for Phrynosoma m'calli. The weather
was favorable, but no animals were
seen. We drove to the Highline Canal
west of Slawis & ate dinner. Then
we began night collecting along
the road between the canals. We
collected from 1935 to 2240. Coleonyx
were on the road early in the
evening, but the weather was rather
cool, so none were seen after 2200.
We saw 3 Crotalus cerastes during
this period, as well as 1 DOR Phrynosoma
m'calli. Several Lepus californicus were
seen along the road as well.
