Apr. 14 Glamis area, Imperial Co., Calif.
collecting at 0700. Then we changed
groups of students at 0900. We
quit for the morning at 1100. After
goning to Shirley Hill's home in El
Centro for ice cream during the
hot part of the day, we returned
to our respective collecting area
at 1715, working there until sundown.
We had planned to night collect, but
the Imperial Valley Dune Buggy Assoc.
moved into our campsite (Osborne Park)
so we camped 1 mile east of Glamis.
Four additional Coleonyx variegatus
were toe-clipped & released as we
drove to our campsite. Min. temp. tonight -63°F.
Apr. 15 We arose at 0630 & ate breakfast.
Then I showed the class where we
found Scaphiopus couchii last fall.
We all collected along the road as
we left the area. However, this was
so late, Diposaurus, Callisaurus, &
Cnemidophorus tigris were the only
animals still active. A brief stop
was made at Raver Lake as we
started home. We returned by way of
Warner's Hot Springs. The wildflowers
were beautiful around Sage. We
reached UCR at 1905 after a trip
of approximately 515 miles.
