Sept. 23 Hesperia, San Bernardino Co., Calif.
Dennis Miller, Pete Allen & I left UCR at 0625 to try to get a sample of Sceloporus mofistis.
We reached the collecting area at 0715, and looked for lizards from then to 1000, when we stopped to eat. Only 8 adults were seen; one was caught. Numerous young ones were seen, and 2 were caught for growth data. The weather appeared to be ideal, but most of the adults apparently have already begun hibernation.
Blue Ridge, Los Angeles Co., Calif.
Then we drove up to this location to look for Sceloporus graciosus. Lots of young lizards were running about, but we didn't see a single S. graciosus adult. One adult Sceloporus occidentalis was seen, but it escaped from us. The weather was very nice at this location also. It appeared as though all adult S. graciosus are finished being active this year. We looked for them from 1125 to 1230. Clouds began to build up by then, which cooled off the area. Therefore, we returned to UCR, reaching there at 1345 after a trip of 143 miles.
