1.
Mar. 23-25 Glamis area, Imperial Co., Calif.
Scott Fowler, Bill Crowley, Bland
Ewing + I left UCR at 1025 to
try to get some Phrysozona
m'calli to finish my oxygen
consumption studies. However, it
is still winter in this region.
The minimum temperature we
recorded on our trip was 28° F.
Lots of flowers are in bloom
between the Highline & Coachella
Canals, but not many in the
dunes. Only 2 P. m'calli were
seen on the trip (both immature), +
1 of those was DOR. We saw only
half a dozen or so Uma notata
in the dunes, as well as an
equal number of Urosoma
graciosa. Three Uta stansburiana
were seen in the crosote area.
That was the extent of the
lizards seen on this trip. Several
interesting birds were seen, however.
A flock of about 50 dark huntinga
were feeding along the S.P. tracks
about 1 mile S.E. of Glamis. Several
Swainson's Hawks were present in
the area just west of the Highline
Canal. Several ground doves were
observed at Indio on the way down.
