Mayhew 1963 Journal 3. Feb. 20 Palm Springs, Riverside Co., Calif. The air temp (1 meter) varied from 24.4°C (1010) to 28.0°C (1400). We left the area at 1530 and returned to UCR. We reached UCR at 1630 after a trip of 151 miles. Feb. 22 Dale Dry Lake, San Bernardino Co., Calif. Herbert Brown, Herta Caylor, Susan Larish, Saul Frommer & I left UCR at 0710, and reached Dale at 0920. The wind was blowing sand across the road when we arrived (~ 15 mph), and continued to blow the rest of the day. We found some Uma scoparia in spite of the wind and rather low temperature. We captured several animals while they were buried beneath the sand. We looked for animals until 1430, but as we had found none for some time before this, I felt the lizards were through for the day. The soil was wet just beneath the surface down to about 12 inches. Lots of annulals are beginning to emerge. I was pleased to see a number of Hesperocallis through the ground at Dale. We left the area at 1500 and reached UCR at 1800, after a trip of 231 miles.
