Glamis area, Imperial Co., Calif.
miles N.E. of Glamis; 5.3 mi. N. of
the intersection of the new paved
road with the old Blythe-Ogilvy
road). Most of the pools had dried
up by the time we reached the
area, even though Lyn said the
washes were full to the tops of
their banks on Friday night.
Nevertheless, we found one small pool
that contained two types of tadpoles
in it. No adult amphibians were
seen until 2215, when we began
to find both Scaphiopus couchii and
Bufo punctatus on the muddy area
left by the evaporating water. They
apparently were coming out to feed.
None of them called at all. We
captured 5 Scaphiopus couchii (3 ♀,
2 ♂) and 4 Bufo punctatus. We
also collected a number of tadpoles
from the pool, which we shall try
to raise in the laboratory. We
collected toads (and saw 1 Cratulus
atrox) until 2300, then drove to
Regina (16 mi. N. of Glamis on the
Glamis-Niland road). Ike Harris
said there had been some large
pools there. The pools were
still standing when we arrived,
