July 15 San Bernardino Mts., San Bernardino Co., Calif.
Dave Renner, Shirley Hill & I left UCR
at 0715 to collect a sample of
Sceloporus graciosus from this range
in July. We looked for lizards
in the Barton Flats area from
0830 to 1300. During this period
we caught 19 Sceloporus graciosus
and 2 Sceloporus occidentalis. The
S. graciosus were very wary today -
much more so than I have
usually seen them at this location.
Several sub-adults were captured
today, but no real immature lizards
were seen. We returned to UCR at
1420 after a trip of 110 miles.
July 16 San Jacinto Mts., Riverside Co., Calif.
Dave Renner, Shirley Hill, Bobby Mayhew
& I left UCR at 0720 to collect
Sceloporus graciosus. We collected
on and near our lots at Pine Cove.
We collected between 0840 and 1215. During
this period we caught 25 animals - 24
Sceloporus graciosus (11?, 13?) and 1 (?)
Sceloporus occidentalis. These animals
were as "spooky" as those we had
chased in the San Bernardino Mts. the
day before. Many were seen that we
were unable to catch. We returned to UCR
at 1330 after a trip of 103 miles.
