Sept. 4
Ocotillo Wells area, San Diego Co., Calif.
We drove the road between
Ocotillo Wells and the state park
from 0730 to 1005, but found
only 2 juvenile P. m'calli during
this time. Lots of Callisaurus
draconoides were seen during this
period, however. As we were having
such poor luck here, I decided
to drive to Palm Springs Panorama,
Riverside Co., Calif. to see if we
might be able to find some
more there (we have captured
several here in the past). We
began looking at 1250, and looked
until 1430, but didn't see one.
We saw several Diposaurus
dorsalis and a great many
Uma inornata at this time, though.
We returned to UCR at 1640 after
a trip of 446 miles. We acquired
only 6 P. m'calli and saw 1 DOR
during the entire trip. This is
the worst I have done since
I began looking for these lizards
in earnest 4 years ago. Fair
numbers of Uma notata, Uma
inornata, Diposaurus dorsalis,
and Callisaurus draconoides were
seen (also Urosaurus graciosa),
however.
