Glamis area, Imperial Co., Calif.
which had buried beneath an
ironwood tree, also appeared to
have abandoned its site after
we left last trip. Consequently,
we did not find a single one
of the 5 toads we tried to dig
up. We then showed Rudy the site
16 mi. N.E. of Glamis where we
had found both S. couchi and Bufo
penetatus. There was no water
standing at any of the sites
we investigated. We returned to
UCR at 1700 after a trip of
402 miles.
Oct. 18
at 0030 I received a phone call
from Ike (Dwight) Harris that it
was raining in Glamis. Peter
Allen, Dennis Miller & I left UCR
at 0830 and picked up Lloyd Tevis
on the way. We learned that Glamis
had received 0.5 inch before we arrived.
We looked for Scaphiopus couchi, and
for places where they would be likely
to be found all afternoon and evening
(see field notes for S. couchi, pp. 19-
for details). The only S. couchi found
that day or night was a sub-adult
♀ that was 16 mi. N.E. of Glamis. One
adult Bufo penetatus was seen 6 mi. E. of Glamis.
Both were found at night 0.12" of rain fell today.
