Kel cor. sists of 2 distinct parts not at all united, falling from when the \frac{1}{4} calyx standard are removed similar to the wings in shape ve trifle smaller i.e. \frac{7}{8} in long. Style redish, hairy on line along upper edge otherwise almost glabrous. Stigma terminal on the tip of style which is bent slightly upward & flattened. Tree dried. Racis v pedicel slightly puberulent Pedicel \frac{3}{8} in dis joined with the fl. w with the racils, the fl falling easily from the pedicel & the pedicel from the racils. 2 fin B HGC P this is pres F. Peduncle & pedicels puberulent. Peduncle bracted at base, bearing successively opp short branches (1mm) which from their bracted tip bear 1-3 fr [This consists] of calyx tube 1/2 mm x 4 lobes (1 opp pair larger than others) less than 1mm. This may be false calyx tube & sessile flower or pedicel if the 4 lobes is the inside of the calyx] seated in the center of these 4 lobes and easily detachable is what looks like a selfed, spm "achene" 4mm. long bearing at top apex x 4 or usually 5 spreading ob lanceolate slimbs 6-7 mm long. This "achene" is showing a 2-celled ovary bearing ovules on the division wall. Cannot tell whether these bodies are really fr or within v dried tips. Nor.

cannot tell whether these blades at top of ovary are lobes of corolla the ovary being in the corollate place superior to calyx or whether corolla has vanished entirely & there blades are appendages of some sort to the fil. No signa & stamina. 4-11-29 Salvinia (Merriana, Klotzsch Southlands Aquatic floating plant florets for 1/2 or approx palmate sessile, orbicular, 1/7 median entire, lobate at base concave upward. The upper side densely covered with erect processes 2mm high sometimes a sample of 2-4 parted (mostly 4-parted) has beneath lying with hair-like rootlets or approaching glochides. Pod-sheaths 1/2 in long & 5/8 wide & flat base. Every seems only 1-celled with 2 ovules or perhaps sometimes only 1 ovule.) 4-15-29 Maniifera indica, L. p 221 FL Agri Stat (labeled 4-19-27) if correct remembered value early in 1929 but 4-15-29 labeled Avocado Pear Persea americana -in Horse lot East of Bull Pen. Some petals turn pinkish on fading blade a few hours on uppy side. Stamen 1, style lateral not all like Persea. 4-15-29 "Myrciaria cauliflora = jaboticaba" labeled Agri Stat in Horse lot east of Bull Pen. This is free studied 3-18-29 in fr then bro. And seems as to if same as 4-10-29 labeled "West Indian Plum" at Par- la-Ville except that this (Agri Stat) has mothorns, Fr, no flo. Myrciaria cauliflora = jaboticaba not found in B. F. J.3 or 3 M.J.C.P Burker LeMvD p 263. This as far as can be determined without flo. seems to be Flacourtiia Pamontelii, L'Her p 248 = F.indica, Nier B.M.J.C.P. 509. Fr has a red lobed ridge around fat of attachment to ped- ice (for the dia) 3 M.J.C.P. v bears twice as deepy only 3 lobes - in one case 4, very small laminar inside, not esp. ciliate. This fr has 6 styles at apex, 2 stamens united at base. The very flat seeds less than 1/4 in long wide stand vertically in pulpy fr. They are arranged to improach a circle, @ or @ 2 in each plane one above the other. Young twig (not as young as 4-10-29) minute puberulent and with conspicuous white lenticels. This is not C - pellocarpous if it as acc to B.T.J.B. This differs accce since calyx is not deciduous, style not simple, red not suspended. Duff. Terminal raceme 2 1/4 in., lower pedicels 1/2 in., upper ones much shorter & almost sessile. Peduncle & pedicels brittle, brown pubescent. Pedicel bracted at base with 1 to 3 bracts above according to length. Bracts deciduous (easily) lanceolate, acuminate, brown, with long brown hairs down center inside, and wooly brown ciliate to - wards base the hairs twisted (84x) so they look varying diameter. Bracts 6-7 mm. In it. no definite div bet pedicel & hyppathem or calyx tube. Calyx reddish more or less brown wooly on edge ereect then when they fall. lobes 5 acute, 4-5 mm long. The calyx is the lobes about 2 mm. Tube deciduous with anther & all together stamens. Petals 5 white or with traces of pink, obovate, 7mm x 7-8 mm at the very blunt apex, brown reclined when they fall. Calyx X Stamens 17-20 attached to calyx tube & deciduous with it. Filamentum- equal, red when they fall but white at anthesis. Style 9mm, 2 parted to within 2 mm, calcant to base, stigmas capitate projects as far as stamens. Ovary in closed hyppathem 2-celled ovules 2 in each cell, ovary cavity when ovules removed only a little wider than hyppathem walls. Style persistent when the other parts fall but in ripe fr. is repre- sented only by its base. Fr. 1/4 in diam, globose with flattened apex bearing remnant of style. Dark colored. Walls thin, seed 1 ascending with seed divides vertically down middle into 2 lobes & per.

4-15-29 Cosmos sulphureus, Car- p. 408 U.S.M.J.C.P. 769 Fd. Agri Station beds of dwelling. Plant to 2ft high flo 2 in across. St peduncle spand, lirsute. Pistil thus same as 3-18-29 outside Walford but larger because cult. Diff as follows: If 3 3/4 x 3 3/4 in. pet 1 1/2 in. Fl 2 in wide, outside bracts not ciliate (20x). Petals not hairy or veins (20x). Disk flo to 10mm yellow, lighter at base but the 3mm triangular lobes not orange until withering. These lobes hairy on inside around edge (this hair not noticed 3-18-29). Anthers to 3 mm as 3-18-29. Filaments hairy as 3-18-29. Pollen as 3-18-29. Oviscence (unflattened, more ripe) like 3-18-29. 5-13-29 bloom as side of 22 Berry Hill rd slightly after it turns W. Middle Rd. Dennell Dr called "Cosmos" by lady on porch. X "Schizanthus hybrids" labeled 4-17-29 Schizanthus pinnatus, Ruiz & Pav. B.M.J.C.P. 668. Agri. Ex. labeled "S. hybrida." Filaments conspicuous at base the staminode but the 2 fertile stamina in center or slightly encave lobes under lip. Underside of the seeds would be rugose. Corolla tube is short shorter than calyx, 5 stamina are exerted is almost as long as middle lobe of lower lip as disc. Noticed that middle lobe of lower lip is [illegible] noticed the length of upper lip and the lateral lobes are longer, 5 falcate, curving inward so as to look like one petal with hole in center. Upper lip variously lobed v left either 3 lobed the middle one slightly notched the thus more or less deeply cleft or 3 lobed the upper and again 3 lobed the 2 lower deeply cleft. p 226 B.M.J.C.P. 469. 4-15-29 Sapindus saponaria, L. Tree at so-east corner of N.E. Hospital drive grounds at corner permanent village st. An large tree. Its seems alt, compounded with 6 lfts but as one looks at tree it seems simple lft's fr. collected from ground. 1 lft to 7x3/4 in on petioles 1/2 in long, 1 lft. oral somewhat inequilaterial acute base rounded inequi. Thin but firm, entire. Above slightly puberulent but dry roughish to touch (fallen & drying frs only studied) from the finely netted veins, beneath only the midrib & lateral veins apparent to touch but down puberulent to downy to touch. Frs on pedicels (infl. pds compoud) racios & pedicels puberulent. Branceles grift subtended by a small bract which remains on raclios under seas not easily detached & looking like small par. substance fr raclios Raclos as collects 7 in long with three seas v bracts about 1/2 in apart at very base & closer together at tips. Frs borne on what seems a slent branch 1/4 in & this raclio's pedicels 1/4 in. Frs fleshy, 3-lobed (but no 2 lobes) not developed the largest 3/4 in long by almost 1 in wide. Frs yellowish brown covered with yellow hairs which readily rub off & seeds (Fr wrinkled at this stage.) Superior to calyx. Seed black, rather pear shaped to 3 pin. Pulp of fr has sticky juice, adhesive in drying, decidedly saponifying (Raclios bands in good tho thin latter which is very cleansing). One seed was 1/2 in diam almost hemispherical attached by a broad sear axle. Some frs seed rattled as tho' in pod,

St slightly pubescent above slender, 1 in or trifurcate, serrate, lo 2 x 3/8 in, glossous, low toothed lobz. Needs solitary or terminal ped. 2 in acros, the disk compasitively small. Rays a soft orange, slightly purplish on claw papilae with red like hairs on claws at base with dark tips to base of blade, &. Blade florage strong of lips anthers purple making center dark except for bright orange pollen narrowly lanceolate. Invol bracts about 1 series, inside edges scarious margined, glandula with purplish dots. Petal lobes 3-sided unmarkedly corrugated in large notches, disks abiences flat with margel border. "studied on this lvs seem more "long to rate" than "broadly olate" very slightly cordate at cuneui base hookary, [illegible] crenulate, rugose, blunt at apex. lower flvs very broad, app abruptly decuminate or abruptly acute, the upper flvs suberending more fle bright purple vein, larger than if lvs near & below acute not acuminate v not abruptly so. Calyx tube 7/16 in x 3/8 in when flattened doubles hardly "broadly campanulate" the lower lip 2 cleft (the lobes decum- mate, the upper lip 4 toothed having a notch in the middle and 2 lateral sharp teeth into which veins are prolonged. Calyx 13-ribbed the upper lip 7-ribbed: 1 along back, 2 lateral that don't reach to margin 2 lateral terminating in teeth. 2 "reaching margin just" above series. These last 2 and the 6 ribs of lower lip once more make lower part of calyx look more ribby than the upper. Corolla tube broadly exerted and twisted from calyx upper lip, purple with dark spots, hairy veins white globular glands like glands on calyx and upper part of flatus (Calyx v green if lvs have some hairs glandular as well). Corolla tube gets narrow at throat below, lower lip whitish, the large concave middle like hair v glandular at base beneath, the lateral lobes narrow. The dilated anterior portion of connectives above above throat as two purple lobes. The four teeth of calyx sharp pointed but not really spiny tipped. Style exerts beyond upper lip of corolla continuing to curve. Stamens not exserted as they are included in upper lip.
