Baulinia Fl. from tree near Bridge Southlands. Petale orchid purple, the 2 lower all veined v reticulated so as to give finely mottled effect | abodes (Purple lightly veined, the 2 lower Petale reddish toward base, the 2 lateral petala whitish toward base the upper rounder petal with definite large red crimson spot in center. 3 1/2 inches. Hamens v all seem fertile, very glandular as dese above. Calyx purple brown. Filaments 1 5/8-1 3/4 in [illegible] (5-9-29) N.B. none of these agree with B. minuta. Kurz p 175 no can bdy ascribed to any in B.M.G.C.P 422 unless poss. B. purpurea or more likely into the latter to B. variegata. All seem slightly fragrant v are open in day. No fr seen. The 2 capsule not quite separates thick yellow sapulum cut. 5-9-29 came tree seen again X 4-11-29 Myrtus Communis L p 2630 B M G C P 535 Southlands Bird. largest lf 1 3/8 x 7/8 in. Old dots evident both sides. Young twigs greenish.
