"Rheal"? 2-cotyledons, Lvs bifid at end of branches alt. Note: cannot find articulation of pedicel refts. BMJ.C.P.377. BFNB/66. Pedicels articulated with paduncle. Fr. nor articulated on its pedicel but divided in the dif. diam- eters. ?? 4-15-29 Abelia serrata Fieb v Zuce. p 373 [See 4-11-29] labeled "Diervilla japonica" This is same shrub as at Southlands. If not as disc. B.M.J.C.P. 739-but perhaps is Abelia or Diervilla or allied genus. If so the part called Calyx tube is lobes in A; a pedicel with 4 parted or bracted top and the 4-5 lobules at top of achene-like body are calyx lobes crowning an inferior ovary, the corolla being gone. Fr seems to be 2-celled valves capsules with several tiny seeds making plant Diervilla but Lvs correspond to no D. in B.M.J.C.P. nor even D. japonica. If however Abelia has several rules, this may be and, D which not even one double had developed as it should, hence the dissimilarity to desc. Could it be A. serrata Fieb v Zuce p 373? Note Lvs are quite lab- rime. Calyx segs are more or less connate: ii, 5 sep; 4 reps; 1 then more or less divided in 2 parts; 4 rep; 3 rep 1D then more or less divided in 2 parts. Consider A. grandiflora. Kell. B.M.G.P. 729.
