definite contrast in color, keel blunt tipped, purple at apex but mostly whiteish. Wings white towards base with a narrow lobe almost 1/2 as long as claw on the upper edge projecting toward base. Keel is less compressed than I would expect, having the upper edges folded squarely inward making a flat surface 3 mm or so wide the whole thing being pouch-like. The lower edges of these flaps are cut straight cross to the claw for abruptly to squarely narrowing to the claw. Keel's wings separately adherent in this region only. Calyx 1/2 in. lobes very acuminate. Stigma definitely hairy below on back. Most mature pod is 3 x 1/4 in. Less to 1/2 in long exclusive of the divided beakful. Plant spreading branches 6-10 in. #161 S.H. 4-3-29 The patch from which the above spec taken had been destroyed but plants not far away showed some fl. Charac above, some fl ting a no same and standard more purple than blue. Plants to 2 1/2 ft. Largest lvs 1+ in x 1 1/4 in some more or less blunt at apex. 4-7-29 Scirpus validus Valil p48. Fl. Devonshire Marsh. Scales tan, green v brown, the lighter parts dotted brown. Edges hyaline v fringed. Sheaths at base purplish reddish brown. 41-29 Dichroamea colorata A.S. Mitchell p 49 Devonshire Marsh.
