rif lateral veins conspicuous above 5 still more so below the mid-rib being rounded & obtuse. Younger pubescent both sides esp. towards base below. Younger wings pubescent. Whole pubescent milky. Axillary spikes Peduncle 2in Splais 2-3in hence shorter than subtending fl. Spikes erect making slight angle with peduncle. Bracts very conspicuous, leaf fl being outfl of a large 3/4 x 3/8 in broad ovate, acute diffuse bract. Bract light green definitely not em- specially rimed. Inside this attach- ed laterally at base of calyx are 2 lance- olate bracts 1/2 in long. Calyx about 5/8 in of 5 narrow thong lobes, triangular at apex, inside glabrous & shining, but edgewise outside white woolly (20%). Corolla tube hidden by bract is stoutish. 3/4 in long to sinus. Limb simply 2-lipped. Upper lip strongly curved forward 3/4 in long, 1/2 in broad at base, 1/4 in broad at tip, & having 2-veined down- narrow center forming grooves with 3 slender stems on each side. Pubescent on back, white, the back turned greenish, the inside with the side veins purple or then purple fleckings. Tip to blunt slightly emarginate. Lower lip 3/4 in x 3/4 in, strongly curved forward with 3 equal oblong lobes, the middle lobe having marked purple with purple veined. Stamens 2, staminodes 0. Anthers on broad disk, connective & pointed at base. Style filiform simple, the terminal disc. by 2 lobed stigma no larger than style. Style & stamens a little shorter than upper lip. Very spotted inside, 2- celled with 2 ovules or parallel axile placentas in each cell. One anther cell seems to stand higher.

"5-6-29 Cestrum nocturnum L p1061 Red Mayflower. Called "Night-flowering Jasmine" by Mrs Cox. St (upper) 2in. Light green, not angular tho a little brittle; V not perfectly straight; hts 7 x 1/2-1 3/4 lbs to 1/2 in. lanceolate, acute or acuminate, entire, tapering or Petioles 5mm in len. rounded at base; Fls "yellowish, very fragrant at night" in short axillary panicles. Floral pedicls on pedicels 1/4 in or less. Calyx tubular 1/2in Calyx 5-lobed (the teeth varying relative size, incl diff). Each fl subtended by narrow bract about the length of calyx. Corolla tube in bud 1/2 in, shortly 5-lobed, the lobes in bud valvate with the edges folded inward at rt. angles. Stamens 5 alt with corolla lobes, inserted on tube; each filament having a little upward projecting tooth or inside at opposite where the filament become free of corolla. (filaments very strong but aduate to corolla to base) Anthers very definitely tuberculate (20%). Stigma capitate under than the slender style. Ovary 2-celled. Pos. C. Parqui: 1/2 lbs in B.M. CP c61. X 5-9-24 Crinum Fl. Southlands in one of the quarries somewhere east of Bridge. Low light green margins vary left toward base. Edges perhaps rough toward base but seem smooth toward tip. (Tested by touch only) Low long scale- 2-3gm bival. mg, dense glaucous, grayish feathery pile, quite a diff color than flor. Fl 1/5 in very small pale rose pinks. Lateral on outside, not fragrant Pedicels to 1/2 in., tube curved, slender 3in., segment as long or almost as narrower skin, the broad part for food, and long, stamina, funikale toward tip, declinante, unequal, the longest only a little shorter than segments. The 3 remaining on radius extending on each side v between the depressed scars of the penna which debuts clearly. There not gland-like. Lfts with petiolules about 1mm, with number 3 stipular organs similar to those on main rachis except that they are smaller; v the lateral ones are owl shaped without the conical base. Anders. p.357 BMG.C.P. 770. B.V. under 1st fl season. Pedicel & calyx densely covered with a stalked gland, Corolla 4 in high x 2 1/8 in across. Tube narrow at base but enlarged curved lobes. Stamens 4, thin bases of filaments barely connected, anthers pointed at base. Positin staminode indicated by tiny protuberance. Anthers yellow white. Corolla dull blue, lighter midde. Pubescent v slightly glandular out- side. Stigma with 1 long recurved lobe v 1 my short erect lobe. Ovary in disk, 7/8 in high, 2-celled, ovules 13 in each cell exaxil. Placentae. Calyx upper 1/2 in. plant collected from Touquet, but leaves that linear or narrowly lanceolate 2 in x 3/8 in. acum- inate, minutely toothed on edges, mid- nerve prominent beneath. Diffusely panniculate or perhaps flo should be considered solitary or branched. Flo in naked spreading peduncles 2-3 in long (idema pr.) In apparence what seems a peduncle thru the air you often contains a bud. Calyx tube 1/2 in high, narrow at base, larger in middle, 1/2 somewhat narrowed again at throat (club shaped ?) Strongly 10 tee ribbed, the ribs being transversely wrinkled v more or less bottled. Limb of Caly of 5 teeth 1/4 in long, there are hood at base with hyaline margina the center dark green (a continuation of a strib) v prolonged into a ciliate lip. Perhaps of Calcalpin cassie No 42. a tree perhaps like this is pink at night on wall as my berries have seed berry still Rt. seems to die gone slumbered order but this not noticed in crushed lot.
