05-14-29 the small Briza, 3-14-29, but like the thick hairs enlarged at apex. Akenes vlemmas are light bronzy green-v mostly glabrous except for the distinct green nerves which in leuana have a row of minute white dots on each side. Palea 4x2½mm as desc 3-14-29 except that it is flate and quite glabrous on back. Cuttles white not purple (see 3-14-29) at any stage. Lvs to 7¾ x 3/in. Ligule 2in high, milky-white, hyaline being a continuation of the similar edges of sheath. Collar purple at least at corners, oblique. Plant glabrous, light green, at base purplish. Note: leaves longer v wider than desc Bf/PB. V could hardly be called "narrow, bylinear" Plants 18-24 in high. 5-13-29 Pteris Candata, L. p 419 ? Devonshire Marsh. Blms renewed now, quite plainly. Pinules v rachis hairy beneath. Abundant. 5-13-29 Grass, no'ts Devonshire Marsh where field cuts into marsh at east end J.no. 1st commos. Seen there 4-1-29. Prob is Holcus halsperensis L poll BMG OP/105. "2 inch" midribis white v prominent above, labeled below. Blade many nerves? Plant 4½ ft to base of lvs. Lsots 2 A x ¾ in sheaths purplish at least at base, glabrous except densely hairy at node, the hairs often rising from enlarged purple bases. Ligule a ring of hairs. Culms ⅞ diam with large white pithy center. Plant gray- ish green.
