Calyx upper 1/2 in. plant collected from Touquet, but leaves that linear or narrowly lanceolate 2 in x 3/8 in. acum- inate, minutely toothed on edges, mid- nerve prominent beneath. Diffusely panniculate or perhaps flo should be considered solitary or branched. Flo in naked spreading peduncles 2-3 in long (idema pr.) In apparence what seems a peduncle thru the air you often contains a bud. Calyx tube 1/2 in high, narrow at base, larger in middle, 1/2 somewhat narrowed again at throat (club shaped ?) Strongly 10 tee ribbed, the ribs being transversely wrinkled v more or less bottled. Limb of Caly of 5 teeth 1/4 in long, there are hood at base with hyaline margina the center dark green (a continuation of a strib) v prolonged into a ciliate lip. Flo 13/16 in across rose-red (a pink) each petal notched at apex, with a dark red spotted scale at throat. Styles 5, about half as long as petals, the tips spirally curved (like wattle springs). Styles lie flat in same plane as petals (not protruding at it angles to petals) laying down inside from tip to base. Stamens 10. Oules many. Seeds prob will be rough. Plant glabrous, without resid paleto. #138 GH. 5-13-29 Bigna maxima 1 pot on myop 120 Ft. lawn of Highwood just east of ferry wharf or mo rd Toget east. Spik. let 3/4 in x 3/8 in. Flo scales hardisting hairy on exposed parts and densely papillose hairy on portions covered by the scale beneath. Petal glume about 1-nerved narrows to base, 2 nd glume about 11-nerved strongly endate, with purplish at very base. Lemmae 11-nerved. X but not with real scales as due for
