edge If. Lvs not equally acute at apex & base. Veins distinct above & prominent below, curving upwards. In bud calyx 1/2 in. Corolla tube 3/4 in., than there are 5 anthers as the corolla filaments are hardly 1mm. long and the balls of the anthers are as long as the equally short part of filament and tips of anthers reach to tip of corolla but style reaches to tip of corolla bud rising from a bulbous disk (orange shape that doesn't look like an ovary at first) (If I studied: 5-bud corolla lobes, stamens, 5 ovary cells 4-4-4, 2 had them 5-5-3, 2 had them 5-5-4 and 1 had them 5-5-5. (Note this is as to number of ovary cells the only diff from these B.M.C.P.) Corolla means & very small in each cell, coming out in a single mass from each cell. Corolla like valvate. Calyx red & pubescent. Corolla red & slightly less patent (not pubescent) x 5-17-29 Centaurea americana, Nutt p 407 B.M.C.P 991 Fl. Agri Station found 3-2 I dwelling. Staxbridged above to slightly roughish. Receptacle very bristly with long smooth white linear (almost filiform) scales. Adene glabrous. Pappus supremally forked bristles Fl.
