Order XLIX. Rosaceae. 37.- Prunus (a.) (S Padas.) - Sheet 74. - Spec. 12. - Buena Vista Caion, W. Humboldt Mts. Self. 9^E 1867. - Very frequent in the caions of the W. Humboldt Mts.; from Fours also a branch Peak, E. Humboldt Mts.- The base to the head. Fruit ripe, like that of P. serrata. From "To-cherini." 3^0 to 10^0 high, diminishing with increased altitude of location. 38.- Prunus (b.) (S Padas.) - Sheets 75+76. - Spec. 1-4. - Buena Vista Caion, W. Humboldt Mts. Self. 10^E 1867. - A single tree, near base of mountain, 12' high, a more slender growth than (a.) throughout. Racemes of fruit- long & pendulous. Fruit light red, somewhat larger, more juicy or thinner skinned than (a.) 39.- Prunus (y.) (S Prunus.) - A low thorny shrub (1-3'), with a small yellow scarcely mealed fruit, and small leaves. Common in the Truckee valley & cid caions, from Humboldt station to Pyramid Lake. No specimens, except of fruit. 40.- Spiraea caespitosa. - Sheet 77. - Spec. 1-5. - Star Peak, W. Humboldt Mts. - Self. 15^E 1867. In these mats on limestone rocks near summit of Star & Marble Peaks. 41.- Potentilla (S Euphorbiella.) - Sheet 77+79. - Spec. 1-5. - Unionville, (Buena Vista Caion, W. Humboldt Mts.) - Self. 9^E 1867. - Marsh bank of stream. Stem differs by branched branches procumbent or ascending. 42.- Rosa Very common upon the banks of streams... 2-6'. - Probably two species, at least. Differences noted in the shape of the fruits & in the perianth. calyx 10's. - No specimens.
