old site 4 km ENE Puerzara. Tumbled rocks + small
colamar cactus on my "line". Myral + Roy set
about 50 shermans, apparently for more open
habitat.
July 20, nothing in my or Roy's traps; one ph dermini and
one ph amicera in the lower, barren part of
myral's.
Done south then up the caneto valley. road trail
desert all along the way. The valley is completely
and in lower parts (except for irrigates), no bona
zone, then eventually small cacti, dry small shrubs,
and eventually small trees such as jatoba ?, puya,
small leafed Tillandsia with fine flower draped
over rocks, and at + 6000 ft lots of channel
moss. The irrigated part of the valley is full of corn (all
ages), yuca, cotton, tomatoes, pejaya, various fruits, alfalfa,
etc. Pepper trees + willow are abundant, cana for mat-making.
at our campsite (about 10 km S Yanguros, 8000 ft), the vegetation
along the river bottom is grass (green turf), Scotch broom
(in boom + pods), pepper trees, a Sonorach pepper, a few other
broad-leafed trees, and a couple of small plowed fields + cows
across the river. Up the slopes are cardeloba cacti 10-15 ft
tall, large almost leafless bush-trees dripping with Spanish moss,
numerous leafless screencult jatrolba ? upto 10 or 12 feet
tall (some just beginning to bloom, into gray, red clusters
coming out of the bare branches, small joints cacti, large agaves,
