Then went to the beach at Puerto Viejo (our location 7 km SSE Chileo) with the Ponzer and with Manuel Plenge, local ornithologist. Carol showed them Burhinus and Plenge collected one for me. Just before dark the Pons set Sherman's in the tellardia. July 7 Nothing in traps x Left for Leon Tree about 7:30, stuffed it secure for packs, then drove to a camp above Casofalca (our altimeter reads 13,620 ft; 2.5 miles by road). Good aliflor bunchgrass habitat. Carol, myrusl + I put 40 small Sherman and 70 large Shermans in lupine, Senecio?, and rocks below Casofalca. Ray put small Shermans + M-S. in the bunchgrass-rocks x Every color, clear, cold. On my trap line, mixed in with the lupines were Senecio, nettle, Calcearia, some other bushes, and scattered weeds and grases but no bunchgrass. My line was on the south side of the valley; lots of bunchgrass on the north side. Carol and myrusl's habitat about 2 km SW, [2 mi. SW Casofalca, ft] 13,300 Camp 2 mi N Casofalca, 14,400 ft., Dept. of Lima. July 8 Night cold, clear, < -4 C x Ran traps at 7 a.m. My line had 1 Phalarinis, 4 andrins, and 2 long-tailed Colomps x Carol had 1 andrin, myrusl 0 (big folding Shermans). Ray caught 1 Phalarinis, 1 Abdomen galatini, Calomys ducilla, and long-tailed Colomps x Some of his traps were out in a pasture of short winter grass scattered with boulders and some along a steep ruech with stream ad lush bunchgrass.
