Canon City - Skyline hogback - Section Starting near base Dakota hogback at the Fe impregnated cap on massive ss at base of the [illegible] transition zone. The T zone here has massive sandy beds in with thin platy siltstone + shale. Section just to SE of where DCC member comes in. 82 sandstone, massive, cross bedded cross lam., fine to medium grained, weathers light gray and buff. Measurement approx, but close. 5.4 Shaly clay with thin zones + lumerzo siltstone. Locally sh is calcite st bds Conglomerate + cql. ss, chnt pebble jam. 1.0 +/- Discount, 14.0 Sandstone, massive x low buff weather. Medium to coarse with occ. chert pebbles in lower ql, many plant stem frzgs Interwdded. ss as above, and cql. ss, + sandy sh, dk, with chrt frzgs -- All highly leat. Many plant stem frzgs 3.0 Sandstone, massive x low, chiefly med. brownish weather with pink czst. Minor coxus 1.2 + dk gray sandy shale with plant frzgs and locall sandstone with plant frzgs at base. This unit varies in thickness from about 10 to 25 feet. Meas. here is about over 75' and local. Colorado 115 section at Dakota hogback betw. Turkey & Rock creeks.. Section pieced from outcrops along ridges N+S of road as well as along road cut. NW side of rd on bluff - partial section (Not used in charts) 11.8 Irryq interbedded siltstone and argillaceous siltstone, and fine-grained sandstone. SS predominates in upper 7.0, below this beds progressively more argillaceous + some pts of silty clay. 3.0 Shyly argillaceous siltstone and some silty shale, chk grzy to browngray with thin interbeds siltstone & fines. 4.6 Obscured by wash, due to weathered surface, shows a dk gray highly silty shale with yellowt + orange Fe stains. -NOTE- may be small fault here or just weathering along fracture plain. 1.7 Dk gray plastic clay, finely slightly silty, with Lingula. 26

Down slope the SS below it thickens and coarsens and below this thick SS at some level as cql on road shows course gono, introcql, and local small chert pebbles. 2. This SS is here 25' thick & coarsely cqlastic. It seems to be the one immediately under the massive cql ledge taken as base Lytle. 3. Good exposure of Glencora-Lytle contact. 3 ft of platy SS on white siliceous claystone. about 1" intraform with chert pebbles. 4. This occuroznt in crest caused by intercelation of thin clay beds above the base of the massive cliff forming sandstone. There then channels in base Dakota, but - may correspond to 3 beds in top of what you have been calling Glencora at Von Biber & Deer Creeks, however only 2 beds at this loczlty. AIN 49-08 (cont. (5) From about this point south along the ridge a considerable change takes place along the Glencarn - Lytl contact. The platy sandstone 3' at # 4, becomes progressively thicker; the white silty clzystone containing local lenses sand; and a massive xlam med qr ss comes in at base Glencarn. The whi sand louses in the white claystone ove cherty (white) is at Morrison, and locally this cherty sand is in contact with the massive sand at base Glencarn. This latter unit gets as much as 2.0 thick and generally has at least an intrecpl at base & locally contains chert pobbles. From #5 to road (wherevisible) the platy ss sits either directly on the white claystone or on the massive ss. No shale seen below it. (8) At this point the two massive cqltic sands are spread apart by thickening of intervening shale, the thinner lower bed caps the prominence jutting out beyond the usual slope to the west, while the upper continues up the gulley. There is no faulting in here, the unusual pattern of topog is entirely result of separation of sandstones (9) This ledge is the lower cyl ledge it has thin zones of intcql and where thickest zones of chert pobbles cql. Red + green shale separates it from the lower of the two beds mentioned above. (10) Good shale-on-chlzystone Glenczirn-Lyttle contact, Notes on Turkey Creek gap area. Dakota, has middle clay split that isn't developed in gap -> itself. Clay not thick enough to be important. Glenczurn-Lyttle contact sharp, commonly shale on chlystone no cql or only thin layer. See 5 above Base of Lyttle: -> a toss-up. The Lyttle consists of lenses of ss + cql. ss The lowest one is well below the Glenczirn -Lyttle contact, ss at N.Golden section and Plainview section. It has fair thickness of red + green shale between it and next higher. In this area there are two principal cyl ss zones above the basal one, and several thinner beds.
