AIN 49-08 (cont. (5) From about this point south along the ridge a considerable change takes place along the Glencarn - Lytl contact. The platy sandstone 3' at # 4, becomes progressively thicker; the white silty clzystone containing local lenses sand; and a massive xlam med qr ss comes in at base Glencarn. The whi sand louses in the white claystone ove cherty (white) is at Morrison, and locally this cherty sand is in contact with the massive sand at base Glencarn. This latter unit gets as much as 2.0 thick and generally has at least an intrecpl at base & locally contains chert pobbles. From #5 to road (wherevisible) the platy ss sits either directly on the white claystone or on the massive ss. No shale seen below it. Diagramatic sketch of nature of variations in units along contact # 4 # 5 to road S. of road above stream Platy Contact -> clsty cherty ss P laty (6) and (7) At both these localities the Dakota is split by shale and the upper sandstone swings down the back slope of the ridge while the lower continues to hold the crest. 44
