Near the face of the Christian Mr Sorday collected abundantly platycerus and spirifera aretius. Also Ammonatus and Pennselaria cumbulandia, Eaten with the Loch me. S. areneus grew through. Tritonite came from near the top, The great majority of prints came from the low third, however other said prints seem higher.

"Hills Crust" Gordon says there in 75 feet last one at Oriskany. 150 foot S. arecta & C. complanata here. = Wp. Christly. This mountain near the face of the Oriskany or usually understood, dark - Hays. Carnivorous limestone in floors and clints. The long beds dare on below to where beds are fancy the last 75 feet are harder shale beds. = L. Oriskany 625 foot Lef. Hotulits 70 feet above base Recrent all the Trail. Come here. Limestone Reef, Rose Hill 9:0 main lim., North the Potomac R. Here are shown no less than 175 feet of Tentaculite limestone. Have a few fossils, Tentaculites, Ostracoda and a smuall Meristella, Also a Petgia near above. Most of these are in the upper thinl although the Meristella goes through. The Tentaculite is rare here and was found only in one bed about one third from the HP. This section shows with the top are the bottom, The thickness of the entire L. Id. could not be be made out but it can hardly be less than 1000 feet. L.Id. Lower are the N.J. Horizons and the Triassic zone I Part Jersey but not the Lower Potamene, This horizon does not appear to come to the

surface here. But 15 miles away in Sedra were many Pentamerus associated with Atype reticulatus. Corals are also abundant here.

Cumberland section for comparison. Sep. 25-1900. Ovits Boettner, Marcellus shale Crishang Top not seen. Reedu says shows an uneven surface, with much creasing. Dark blue, arenaceous, heavy bedded limest. abounding about S. are- nous, S. anietus, Strophodonta magnifica, and Hippurings pygmaeus. Below in S. inter- media and Chonetophia com- planata. April 150ft. Kingsmt a Crishang 120' Dark blue, arenaceous li. with chert qnes. Heavy beds above passing into thin beds. Mr Frost saw New Jersland and Recraft. Thin bedded, shaly li. and shale with chert. At top shales with A. Hotel

about 75' lets then a thin zone of Haek li, followed by the Tail bite bed and macrophleura bed (5) Railroad "watch box" lev. Creymans limestone (Low Pnt.) Heavy redded li. with chert. About 60' in full, Does Bybidula occur here? had it best to consider a part of the New Zealand beds? @ Heavy and then redded Huist to yellnish li. with chert goes. A well developed Stimeitipora zone at the top and bottom. Also S. galeata corals and crinoids. Pride thinks the Bybidula occurs almost entirely here near the base. The shells are small. Transition. 160' (2) Balastus bed. Thin redded Huist li, with zone of shale. Bryzon atundant. Chale rarity of

"Lepidula and Favoites held. "Panux emi red. Formas melodus of the above, has L. alta, penio from dubiu and D. oranuxymi Here also one found the Ital- site and Calymene. One from Cock Rally near Clark's distillery the other between Williams road and Baltimore Pike near Folots Mills. In the former rally it is found with S. galactus. "Marlius lenistme Rosethie 175' "Case not seen.

Sep.-27-1900 Arrived at Cumberland last night and came stopping with Mr. R. H. Lord. Spent the day at the Devils Back Cone section. We first collected back of the R.R. match box and I soon learned that most of the lower roll here up the hill side has fallen down for the Cliff to the right (west). In this debris I found several large and typical Pentameres and from picking the column of Sep. 26th made [illegible] pretty nearly a draft that the limestone ridges below (east) are all of the Lower Pentameres. Spring up the hill near the top about two feet of other limestone (higher in section) we saw on the face came one large Orthos Matu spinae macrolima, L. rhomboidalis, Strunella punctulifera and Orthotheca amphorhama n. gadicta. This assemblage points unmistakably to the Delthys (von to fifth page.)

Thin bedded irregular limestone also has strong oolite in places or sparingly. Heavy bedded dense blue, MH li. Oolitic less, slight throughout. Oolites of beds are more a few crinoidal. Base of this is rather variable. our m. Ostracoterm.

Upper heavy bedded chpty li. 20 Middle one thin bedded shale li. 35' One Colman remains (?) starting from here Fine Lomiscinium like and other fen. Sharp a reticulans, Lower 15 feet heavy bedded dark blue chpty li. Some faintly shaly here R. formosa bed, 6" Upper 38 feet heavy bedded dark blue limestone! Lower 33 feet thin bedded dongstone chpty li. = shirron C. greggman alta (ha.) altedenish, large Sphenodictum and small Meristella like. Talus slope. Contact with Tondloury probably here. At the top layer arenaceous li, with fossils? About 60 feet. 240' Then about 100 ft of dark blue clay hard almost cherty limistone gradually becoming more arenaceous towards the top. Almost no fossils. Thick bedded Hunt Rock cherts. Boulders 75 feet (includes 6' beds) 30 foot at base 2, flabellus? 122 m Kinghorn's One Mary 240' 270 Boulder clay J8 - 7M 60 3 250 Is this the end of the lower shelly li? Very chert macr. flora bits seen for ten feet. S. macr. flora, S. pelidocera and S. woolworthiana are very common at this point. 18 feet onto S. galeatus O. arenacitella & O. receptacula P. Shale. These beds measure 12 feet thick by a six foot zone of Hacklied them and irregular Reddish flint limestone. Here I found Cep. Haltellus are kindred to the fossil but higher than In none of the collections have I seen the leptellus on the large Pennsylvanian which leads one to believe that are of the Kingston series about and the Chickaway (the Hacklied and are above I now regard as Chickaway) uprose directly on the Delthynus shale. I Believe the R.R. watch Beds are runs to be one continuous series. The highest beds remind much of New York in the typical P. Galeatus, Farret's helda bypne and abundance of Stromatipora. The other series is unbroken and 161'5" from the top in a thick series made up for a few inches of small shells like Pentamerus galeatus. Just above these

shoes byznum are my abundant and it in here that Stenocystis is also found seventy two feet below the dean with the same P. galactus in agreement with an abundance of Rhynchosia promsa, since this is a typical Loma Heldufuj species all above must go into the Loma Pentamurus. Below the P. promsa led the section continues for 70 feet and in appearance are not different from the two above. Certain it that no one has long found any Tentaculite fossils. Therefore the bottom of the Loma Pentamurus is not reported here. Behave therein at the Devils Back Bone 305 feet of Loma Pentamurus 52 " in Aethysus only 246 " in Crickany, 603 " expanded holes in D.B.B.

Sep. 28 1900 Raining. Went the morning in broadm collections picking out the best Linn Seldersby and Christian fossils which he is donating to the National Museum to further the palaeontology of the Cumberland works. In the afternoon collected in the Lower Sils dints at Cark Valley. Here the section begins a little above the Rhynchonella former bed and i went upward through the second strata from bed. Above this the beds are covered but further above is an extreme upturn of deep seated cherty limestones which in more other than the Hesk flint limestone of the Lower District. I picked off these various years and found the thickness of the beds like about as at Lewis Boot Bank.

Collected a number of fossils from the second Shireton farm, Christmas whilst I was in England. Hardly picked up a single piece of the little Rhynchonella like there for the Tintawale grave at Poyser. No fossils seen in the deeppneal clay graves.

Any thin bedded shale changed into Tracesilites Blue limestone, grey and yellow fossil in layers from 2 to 12 inches thick but the lower half splits out & one sided feature. Almost solid limestone, heavy fossil & chaff but weather into the fossil layers. Considerable chert towards the top when the fossils occur. here of Lachanbridge, Conistonite on the lower part sometimes 30 feet thick. off the shale to < from / Gillany. 100ft. = 9x feet 80 rods - The generally flat 70° to run same at 45° No. 29-1900 ↓ down incl. road.

Sept. 29 - 1910 Spend the day untill 2 P. M. with John Hartley and Purdue at the tallest quarry of the P. O. R. R. near Nyer. Was greatly surprised to find here a well developed Tyloculus gyracanthus gem spell up in the Lower Pentamerus. There can be no mistello here since the Cystiden are specific retrostatin gems are below it. Further no Lep. alba recur here but true L. lds brochisports. The Pentamurus gems seem to be the lower one although Mr. Purdue says he collected quite large specimens here. In the Cystid bed which is more shale than limestone, these species are found a smaller lip's one, the glabrous and the flat species.

Sep -29-1900. along the Celtine road from Roger Appratis Judge Allaire's house the cystic bed is exposed, Sep atmt. 70' and it is about 160 yards across to the distinctly distinct beds having the little one Physechmalls. About 40 feet lower on beds until Sep. along an Tintaculite gypsum anthum. Below there are state other Ordovician like beds. About 30 feet above the beds and the now little Physechmall in a zone of least two feet their once filled with the little Crustalline. In the Cystic bed Mr. Judge Allaire's house shortly found 7 specimens and one.

"Sep. 30-1900 S.H. D.B Bagnall 2 miles" In Muller's quarry there is a face of Tentaclite limestone of about 75 feet. Near the top occurs Tentacula synecanthus and Byrichia. These beds are formed in Cement. Below the cement or Tentaculite li. it shows at least 50 feet of thin beds supporting the "Batalus". Over a little valley once Batalus is shown. The dip is here about 35°. The distance is about 218.3 ft. Then fully three hundred gard farther to the red Plats. = 737 ft. From Mullens quarry (top) to top of limestone there is at least 300 feet where the Ordway Echin li. here a sheet. The dip here is fast, about 35° and the line needles also about 487 ft. The Tremaman come in about 30 feet below the top of the "Batalus" here. Tentacula m. dubia gem. Ordway Chet. Byrichian lian Am. state gem. Cave.

Visit the morning library on Shantley and Perdue collections. Pick- out some of the better finds as a donation to the h&l hof. Mrs.

"Oct. 1--1900 Made the section on the following page page in the morning. Gathered five prints from the Platamunga beds which also have the Orvieta. The latter does go up into the Bryozoa bed. In the afternoon packed my trunks to be ready to leave on the 6 P.M. train.

Oct. 1 - 1900 Audition along Car. Rd. by forming of about seven miles and about two miles from Austin. Johnston Cumbland Second Summit point hid. and farmside. Pt thch. 9 o'clock 37 acres. Oxygen held with oxygen, Persists type Practical and manner of getting it up and about 10 feet clear. This field is probably more Oxygen held. Heavy bed that is about an hour. Performs well and Pentlanus held. Stave found for him. atm. 30 ft. = 177.5 ft. deb. 150.

June 12 - 1901 Wednesday Left Washington on the 10.00 G.M. train for Cumberland. Arrived at 2.50. Talked shop with Lorden and started by the balance of the day. June 13 - Thursday. Spent the entire day at Pinto, 10 miles S. &. on the D. & C. R. R. From the station went around to the Armisteads road in up found a very complete section beginning in the Clinton and terminating with the gated bed. I had a copy of Powers section and in it I have made alterations and re- marks to adjust his work. In this section it will be best to begin the salmion with the first inter.

duction of the large Lepiditina, or milk bed rocks. For the present I think bed may well terminate the Salina. The Tentaculite formation over in- clude beds 3 and 2. Bed 1 goes according my old interpre- tation into the Lower Pentamurus. Bowns estimate of 95-foot talus in the beds from the Tentaculite up to the cystid bed. Just before coming to the shelly cystid zone there is a bed with Favosites and Cladifera. The latter in great abundance. In the cystid zone here are picked up several of the characteristic brachiopods. The Lower Pentamurus zone should come in just beneath the cystid zone but was not able to find it in close association with this zone. However Mr. Darby found the bed on the hills west of the Brimbleton road in the

roots. I think it is in the paper place just beneath the cystid gme but could not positively determine this. The general thickness appear as follows: Clark Mills beds from Tentaecula li of to cystid gme. 95! Tentaculite beds. 388! Spatulimit n Salina. 704. Niagara 340 1527 To this must be added: Beds above cystid gme at D. B. B. 146 Macrupleura beds. 52 1725 ft. 246! Crisling D. B. B.

June 14-1901 Friday. Drift Hartly started out for the Devils Back Bone. After one were thus about one hours it began to rain and left it up for the day. I first corrected my section and then collected points marking them according to the zones. Jarstad was leaving for the 2nd of June Camas Springs. Hartley called my attention to bed 14 with its criminal layer of 5 feet thick- ess. It is apparently this bed (14) that is the equivalent of the Ryegum cysted one and not bed 12 as formerly supposed. It may also have been the lower cysted one seen yesterday at Pint on the Birchbutter road. Hartley will allow me to pick out the desired material out of his collection.

"and purchase it in his future collection. Or almost any other describes them, June 15-1901 Saturday. Keyser, Va. Left Cumberland at 7.45 p.m 2/0t Bridge and Keyser. Set off at the former place and collected a few fossils and after the section. The railroad went about 1 mile to the Keyser quarry. In the Keyser quarry had not got success. Found quite a lot of fossils at purchase some of the labeling ones. Rained a little all morning but again on our way to Cumberland,

June 16th Sunday Cumberland Rained all day. Spent the morning adjusting Perdrie's Collection. Spent the afternoon and evening with Jordan and Hartley. June 17th Monday. Rained in the morning. Spent Perdrie collection. Spent the afternoon at Cast Valley with Hartley. The Pentamenus occurs in the Cast Valley in two groves, one beneath the office garden bed and the other in the centre of it. About all that is exposed now is from a little below the Pentamenus bed into the second thicket from bed. Collected a few Lower Ordovany fossils for the Glenpaul Rock chart.

June 18 - 1901 Tuesday Hyndman There are 2 quarries back of Hyndman. The section is about as follows. [illegible] dark blue line Base Lepaditras Nodular li. About 50 ft. Quarry bed Base Travertine Thin loder li and shale. About 30 ft. about lignen csti, of ind have fossils, 3 or 4 formations against main quarry (springy) but see specimen quarry. 33 ft. [illegible] 18 ft. & beds. See specimen. Circled areas are the surface strata forming 90 ft. stratum forming against bed once and through that quarry, Ostracoderm beds and coral Quarry [illegible] See specimen of Branchiopod ostracodermis. Red 2 has Calymene R. formosa Phyechmella Orthothelys 2 species Crimoid ? Red 4 has Ostracoderm 2 sp. Terebrata 1" Gryphaea Wellphylum? Chrychospira.

This section brings out prominently one fact i.e. that there is another stratum some ftm just above the lowest cystid given in the Middle Marlus. Harkley says a similar bed occurs at the D.B.B., only less prominently. Another point is that the crustoid bed of the D.B.B. (=Lower Marliis) is decidedly a solid limestone bed and more prominent than the one above the Pentamys beds at D.B.B.(=Mid. Marlus) The large Lepiditha must have come from some hole although found in the dung of the cystoid bed. Spent the afternoon in the Corijane with quarry, It is in the loft of the Upper Pentamerus beds and up into the Macro- plana beds.

June 9 - 1901 Wednesday Keggen. Camarocerus occur in same about 6 to foot thick just beneath the Pentamera bed. With the Camarocerus and below for 20 feet in greatest abundance of Spiniger modestus. Our cycetids are found in the Camarocerus but occur far lower down Spiniger retrostatis. A. campbellanus also occurs with the cycetids up above my table. The big campbellanus from my farm tray occurs below in bed 17. See the Pentamera collected by shortly 4 to foot below A. octocentatus. The dumps show that the second strata not form but to be typically dealt with here although the chonotiforms are scarce, on the dumps. Seemed a just lot of fossils.

June 20 - Thursday Cumberland. Packed five boxes today at Sodom Shurtleff and Perkins home. Drove out with Sam in the late afternoon. June 21 Friday Cumberland - Washington Left Cumberland on the 7:55 train and got off at Cherry Run. Cherry Run, W. Va. About 3/4 mile west of Cherry Run on the O & O R. R. there is a hill side cut through a very large dome. Long to the western limit of the dome. The following is the section.

Lowest bed. 1 A series of thin bedded limestones with some shale. Has an abundance of Meristella and Tentaculites in my hands. Passing up- ward into more massive beds, thick Hybzae of the Trentaforn kind here. Also large Fis- theliprinitis. These upper beds become more and more arenaceous and finally become a 2 Calcarenous Bandstone with some fossils. Carathing out the fossils in a siliceous state. Macerflures gone. 3 Passing into arenaceous limestones with a chert. No macerflures here but much Rim. selacrina equiquadrata as the most charact- eristic fossils. About 85 feet seen, Nearly all the fossils in the upper half. From last outcrop to Oranella, across a small stream and is a distance of 300 feet. The dip of the rocks is about this I saw no evidence in the farm fields at the foot.

"Typical Christian fossils of this section," as stated by Crow, bear some large affinities to the fauna of D. cornu carinatus but are D. cranium. Below no 1 it is 180 feet to the next cost outcrop where the beds strike dip about 100 while at the crest out- crop they dip about 20 to 35 degrees. This exposure shows about 30 feet of massive gray to blue impure limestone with [illegible] (vertical joints). In the maculemons zone the fossils are most common in the lower half. D. maculemona fails in the upper third where Edricinus is most abundant, D. carinatus goes through. Left Cherry Ave for Washington on the 5:42 P. M. train.

Diphtheria Coryza of this section as stated by Cruse saw some large specimens for the side of D. C. Corynebacterium D. diphtheriae. Calne no.1 it is 180 paces to the next road entrance when the beds still dry about 100 mile at the south end only they dry about 20 to 30 degrees. Trip to Letchfield with Becker Sept. 1901.

Sep. 2-1901 Left Washington at 11 A.M. for Atlantic City where I stopped one night at the Stafford House. Had breakfast next day at the Windsor. Sep. 3 - 1901 Started for Philadelphia at 10 AM and put up at the Stanon Hotel on Arch and 12th. Sep. 4-1901 Started for N.Y. at 9 A.M. and remained there until Sep. 7 - 1901 Went to Albany on the day boat leaving 22nd street at 9 A.M. Called on Ast in the morning.

Sep. 10 - 1901 Had a team to take us to Mr. Maxwells house near Gains Cornus, and nearly opposite Jerusalem Hill. Stay all day with Bucher for crinoids in the Creymans but found none. Found a few small fossils chiefly Ostracods of the genus Lepeditra. Sep. 11 - 1901 Wednesday Abandoned the diggings of yesterday and

Sep. 11 - 1901 Wednesday Abandoned the digging of sections and started a new one in another face of the same quarry, which is diagonally opposite over the road from the house of Maxwells and on the top of the Junkers Hill. By come we had discovered the criminal bed. Cleared away some rock in the afternoon. Rained several times today. Sep 12th Thursday. Cleaned up the diggings of yesterday and washed the layers and criminals. Sep 13 Friday. Dug again with a man for a half day in the place of our first experi- ment. Saw some storm or rains but nothing more excepting a few Maxvellian stones.

Sep. 14 Saturday. Collected all day along the stone walls and looked over the section. The latter is as follows: The rise of the land is steep from the waterline at the base of which issue springs. Short and deep gullies are in the waterline and usually stop where the [illegible] begins. This near the top of the waterline that the Eurypterus are found. Above the water line is a steep slope covering the Pentacinite. Above the formation about Coffret is a bend of shaly bedded limestone of the lowest Cegmans, where lower beds may be called the Illinoia beds. The thickness of this lowest Cegmans is about 35 to 45 feet and in layers around in Illinoi- onic. Other fossils are [illegible] on Corals Chonetes greysenia, a small Platycerimus? Dalmanites tail ? or more species of Rhynchonella, and 1 Rhynchospira. Then follows a gentle slope rising for about 30 feet to the road at the base of

Jerusalem Slite. Then a sharp rise to expresses of heavy bedded limestone about 50 feet above the road. These heavy beds can be seen in segments of a large Crinoid, and great quantities of the stems of Lepida- docrinus, also Farrella seem here (have me) and nearly Glymeria. Above the last level there is another steep rise to the quarry level from which many years ago were taken the Homocina rock for stone walls. The Quarry design is the slite, or side of Jerusalem Slite. The face of the quarry is about 25 feet and the Homocina layers are about 5 feet above the lowest part of the quarry. About six inches above the bottom crinn plate in the one with Mariacrines. Above the latter about four feet is a hard crystalline layer with small black specks. ditto. In another quarry once back on the same line higher beds are shown and at

the way top is a Stromatiform zone about 30 miles thick almost completely made of these corals, I should judge the zone to be about 5 to 10 feet deeper than the Stromatium quarry. Stephen still comes in the zone with P. foliatus. These higher beds maybe 20 or more feet thick. Sep. 15th Sun day. Spent the morning at Cedarville, where are collected on the higher (P.foliata bed). Cragmore's Fossils rather scarce. In the afternoon collected along the stone walls on the Wheelock farm. Found a Lepidocrenus. Animal rosettes and a fine Tentaculite slab.

"Sep. 16 Monday. Spent the morning in 2 small quarries about one mile east of Whelocks farm. Both are in the upper Limestone, exposing about 25 to 30 feet. The lower and upper beds of these quarries are thin and even bedded while in the center there is a heavy bedded dolomite with gastropods. Most of the O. Ganymede and Lepidilitas occur in the lower beds, T. gypaeanites is very rare here. The Marlin is in may exceed 40 to 50 feet. About 10 to 20 feet of Ceymans are shown in the top of the hill. Have some fossils. In the afternoon walked to a large quarry at Laystre about 3/2 mile east of Whelocks farm. The formation is the same as the little quarry on Jerusalem Hill in which we dug for Ammonites. After looking around a little we dug and found indications of crinoids and I then found a fine Marisacrumma. We also found another new crinoid of which I saw two and Beecher at a mine. The

Sep 18 Wednesday. Spent the morning examining the various quarries near Odys Corners. I examined the quarries to the right of the Ballburg one while Beecher visited the one about half mile to the left of the game quarry. The entire series of quarries here begin a little below the Homergrun- gne and continue to the top of the Corg- man's which is probable by the Onondaga. In the Ballburg quarry we again found more crinoids and Beecher dis- covered the crinoid bed. There can be no doubt that a good colony exists here. He saw the two quartermen full instructions to preserve are they find and believe they will soon send us a lot. The section following is a composite of the quarries near Odys Corners.

Days Corners Section of Coegmans. Onondaga li, with much chert, free coals and loose crinoid stems. About 10 feet to top of hill. Conical slope to large quarry. About 15 feet. Heavy bedded dark blue li, partly bedded towards the top. P. falcatus leading spiral in upper 15 feet. About 30 feet. Grey heavy bedded brittle dolomite, about tanner of phils About 5 ft. Thin even bedded greyish shaly li. About tanner of foots. About 5 ft. Thin bedded brittle blue li 6 ft. Merrimacium gms 6 inches. More or less heavy bedded li, with thin beds all of a dark blue li. About 20 feet. In the afternoon got some material from the Wheelock quarry and packed up. Left Maxwells house at 4 P M.

Wheelocks quarry section, Jerusalem Hill, off Wheelocks farm. Heavy bedded crystalli li. About 12 fat. Creymans [break?] 1. Gray dolomite bed of Days Corners. 4' 2. Thin bedded flappy li. 3' 3. Cryst. li with Lependitias 6'' 4. Blue brittle li. 14'' 5. Cryst. li with Lependitias 8 to 72'' 6. Thin to heavy bedded blue brittle li. {Marciaenmies bed, 6''} For beds below this down to Waterline see page Sep. 14th. According to my estimates the Creymans in Litchfield Township is not less than 187 feet thick. It may be 202 feet if the topmost 15 feet under the Omdoja are added. Since my estimates are nearly always under the mark it is probable that the thickness

is near 225 feet and may be 250 ft. The lower third of the Coeymans may be called the Illionia zone (130 to 40) the middle the Grimidal zone (about 100 ft.) and the upper third the hspidula zone (about 30 feet). Stromatopora occur throughout the Coy- man but are most abundant in the hspidi- dula zone, less common in the Grimidal zone and rarest in the Illionia zone. Lepadocrinus as stems are very common in the middle zone but good specimens appear to occur only in the Stromocrinus bed. In 1904 I noticed that the upper corner else is probably all transitional zone between Coeymans and New Scotland. Some several Favosids (F. hildubryia?), among others P. foliatum, E. media, E. singulans (Orisk. form), Orthothete orthanthus, Uncinulus mutabilis,

Friday Nov. 15-1901 Left Washington at 3.45 P.M. for another collecting trip to Cumberland once arriving at 6 P.M. Borden came to the station to meet me and it is with him I am staying. In the morning Borden showed me much any cystic material. Some of the species, Saturday Nov. 16-1901 Spent the day at Bryan where I collected but little. Picked out the new cigarettes for the U.S. Nat. Ins. and paid him 10/- on the lot. In the afternoon walked over into Dida to Mr. My Hires to look at the Quotary where Hartley has been getting his own contract. Monday Nov. 17- Returned to Dashing ton on the 8.12 A.M train.

1904 Left New Haven Wednesday Sep. 14 for Illin to meet Darle. Left at 12.00 for New York, and at 3.30 for Albany when I stood over night because of train connections. Sep. 15 - 1904 Left Albany at 7. A.M. for Illin when I remained the balance of the day ting sick. Sep. 16 - 1904 Left Illin at 8.30 A.M. for Days Corners ad Mrs. Dallstury quarries when I arrived at 10.30. Staying at Dallstury house. Darle had a place stripped down about 18 feet to the crinoid layer. The span uncovered in nearly 35 x 10 feet. Took off the top layer to get at crinoid bed

but found the rem of crinoids very few and scattering. Not wanting any of this layer as she concluded to go down 2 inks to the next layer with larger stems and larger crinoids. Of this layer concluded to take of a piece about five square. Set. 17- Saturday with Darle took of the slab and then stripped off all the remainder of this layer because another crinoid layer showed on the lower side. This had long and large columns but no heads none seen until near the close of the day when 3 or 4 four large heads of Mariacrinus turned up.

Sep. 18 - Sunday. With Parle strolled over the collecting ground of three years ago, saw nothing particular. Paid particular attention to the Illinois horizon and the Coralline grs. The latter lies just beneath the former. Of the Illinois one our about 5 feet though the same rock with these fossils has a greater thickness. The Coralline horizon is thinner hidden lighter in color with the fossils much more distinct. The common fossils are the Turriles, cup corals and Spirifera erisus that can be seen of the Illinois grs is only a few feet in thickness. Then there is a stiff gany slope for about 30 feet to a bench or flat which I take to be the datum lines. Sep. 19. Monday Left with Jallbery for station at

Salleburg quarry near Days Corner, Herkimer Co. N.Y. Dagle will make a more careful estimate of this section, also will take 2 photos. Hudson Rim sandstone. Clark has a letter from Bather in which is written the following: Coronocrinus is it al syn. for Sta. drocrinus. Cordylocrinus appears to occur in the District. Brachicrinus is part = Hepatocrinus. " Camvocrinus appears to be identical with Loflitthus which is the aunt of lepyphocrinus, & in Bohemia occurs in E1 and E2" Aspidocrinus the aunt. Pterocrinus is part. identical with Triad. crinus. The both extends to Mid Devon. in Europe. Coccocrinus in Dev. in Europe. By Annulopetalis just out of this genus Clark says it = These notes relate to Clark's paper on the Beecrafts Crinology.

Diaturine. 1558 Orthoclinus treli, This is first, the same species as the I. bipartita. 1552 Hedrella, This should be looked into 1556-7 Orthothela here marked Orthodonta bipartita. 1557 A small globula Farreitis nears or ident with the coralline of 1557 This is a small clit marked Diaturine and has P. lamellosa D. ornulotus, The form in great abundance. The Diaturine fossils as here shown are not stratigraphically like separating from the coralline. The latter is not the Cricyara but is clearly the least horizon in the Ord. Lower Pentamurus. The Upper Pentamurus collection is fair and better than the Ord. Shelby, however it is not what it should be to be fair representative collection.

1469. Stylophora lipartita. This is a Leptostrophia now held but smaller and without cornjotum. 1407 Has a Steplasma but also the And species is more like a name Deliphylum. 1466 A Spirifer post identical with the Cembalud modesta. All have indistinct plication This Coralline collection is good and much in yet to be learned in the way of an incresed fauna. The first known aren't good. There is a Belliflora here more then 2 inches in diameter. Oueania profunde post. in the Corallic. It is much like those from the L.P. The Coralline li is rich in Favosite and Stomatophore.

Brooklyn Institute Coralline species. 1462 "Chonetes" from Coralline li. This is my n. of first find and I think it is a Chonetes. = C. jurassica Dr., It is the one with central arrowing there. 1443 Clummaria inaequalis, Lott's and little as very large cells Helix. same but is not of this genus. It may to an Acervularia but has smaller Corallites and apparently without inter- corallite walls. 1464 Rhynchonella lamellata is the frame are just above the latitudes. 1463 Orthus intricatus Dare? If this is this species it belongs to near to some other. 1460 Atrypa nucleolata Dare, This may be may have grown than me species. The comments from her has a distinct but folio area, simply inverted teeth are my very marked series in the ventral valve. This is the ancestor of Ors. bella.
