Winter annual; petals inconspicuous, dull pale purplish, with whitish margins, folded along the midrib. What appear to be last year's plants are up to 1.5 m. tall with pods 8-15 cm. long that have a very short, stout stipe up to about 1 mm. long. [illegible] supreme lab/flowers (35)

with another, apparently related species which is spring annual, now mostly still in the rosette stage, with glabrous larger buds, what appear to be last year's plants of this latter species are shorter and more branched, with somewhat shorter pods that totally lack a tube about calyx.
