Itinerary
July 22.
3 mi. S Mt. Rose, 8500 ft., Washoe Co., Nevada
I came up from Berkeley yesterday on a Greyhound bus
and was met by Dr Hall in Reno.
Put out 50 mouse traps, all in moist sites along edge
of small tributary of Grants creek. Caught 6 ♂ and 4 ♀
Peromyscus maniculatus, 1 ♀ Sorex palustris, 1♂Microtis
longicaudus and 1 ♀ Microtus montanus.
July 23
Put out 55 mouse traps, 25 in sedge and deep grass along
edge of creek and 30 in a grassy upland meadow. Caught
10 ♂ and 6 ♀ Peromyscus maniculatus, 1♂ Microtus montanus This
over one.
I shot two Citellus bellingsi, and yesterday I shot a ♂Tamiasciurus
douglasii. This morning I also shot a marmot (Marmota
flaviventris) and a Eutamias speciosus.
July 24
6 mi. NE Virginia City, 6000', Storey Co., Nevada
Drove from Mt. Rose to Reno to ship some things back
to Berkeley and then came out to Virginia City, picked
up some mail and drove to this camp. I put out
60 traps on a rocky slope covered with sage brush,
Penis monophylla, juniperus, and Ceanothus. Caught
7♂ and 5 ♀ Peromyscus maniculatus, 1 ♀ Reithrodontymy,
1 ♀ Perognathus parvus, and 1♂ Peromyscus truei.
I also shot one Eutamias minimus about 6:45 a.m.
Late in the afternoon I walked to the top of the ridge
east of camp looking for Eutamias panamintinus, but
I didn't see a one.
July 25
Set out 88 mouse traps in mixed sage and pinnon. Caught
7 ♀ and 8 ♂ Peromyscus maniculatus, one ♀ Dipodomys levicogyps
and one Perognathus longimembris (♂)
