Thurs Feb 14, 1945 - Happy Valentine 8:45 am We left our camp at 2:00 am yesterday on account of very heavy rain the night before, which lasted into the day. We were heading for Tambong Dose, three away and where the major Northboom camp was located and where the path branches away from the river and heads straight up the hill. The guide led the way so we camped at our current location by the river. Miller and Modest found Tambong Dose while scouting for it yesterday afternoon - it is to be both far live. The path in the major wellkept location can say at the rate of one party every 3am this far a "jeirai". Its climate of religion significance especially on the darker Sacrificum. At the top they take some wood they like and make a small pithy lath at the village. Some pendons were seen on the way. Coctes will cut fruit trees if Peter do not have them in the village.

Examples were the testy [illegible] and Rambutan. They were very excited to see a rambutan tree, but didn't not seem inspired to take any seeds back. We also found a large Dillenia by the river, although it was not as a typical platform? According to our guide, this would have been in each for honey. I put [illegible] and fruit trees in villages. The effect involved could must have been enormous. The river flows quickly, very fast. Lots of falls and large rapids.

Diversity here does not appear too high. We have few jibs and just the guys reach in September to the time to be here.... Alison! Bees are few, only one butterfly seen, quite few flics. None of the insects are insane - NO LEECHES!!! Temp dropped to 13°C last night. With the sun it seems to get to 27°C! This ridge runs East-West. To S-SW is Kalbor, N-NW Kalteng. Winds are carrying the clouds from Karoak to Kateng. SW of this point, two scars are seen. One to SSW would appear to be a landslide. One more to SW in in a flat area. No fire, logging, lading is evident checked from satellite map. Feb 14 - Moss forest 1715m. He came down to this level, and this is where the last water in Small stream and mark elev. He left at 11 after collect[ing] photo, sacrificing Henry. The moss forest dam is full of trails. We got very lost and lost most of today. Most mania and spring Vaccinium were in flower, some Sageceae fruiting.

At 1400 we were clearly in the last of the ega-egams /ega-egams forest going into moss forest. At 1800-1900 m, the walk became razor back with large drops on both sides, at one point >200m. Somehow we got views of the top of BR Raya. The walk gave a long way through moss forest. We saw crocans - Stihime noted at 1800m. At this alt I have loads of Ericaceae, Nepenthes, mosses and ferns. The brogat (EG/S) is c. bait altered from years of occasional use. Despite this, the area is pristine. Top of summit is like a maze through moss forest

Venation NA prominent but distinct. Fruits with persistent reflexed red calyx. Carpels opening purple. As torus (?) enlarges, seems that carpels start to abort until only 1 or 2 are left. Fruits about 1.5 cm across. Place 5002 x 10 Passiflora Passifloraceae ✓ Liene - common by roadside (is J carnosa? Glab white, appendages purple below, white above. Frts start green, open orange. When ripe, bract fall away exposing entire fruit. About 16 seeds per fruit, sweet. Lvs light green.

Leaf stalkes 2-3m long, armed on the sides below. 5051 - Bracket fungus on fallen tree 5052 - Fern - shooting Shorea sp. 5053 - Urophyllum Rubiacene Shrub - 1.5m tall. Lvs glaucous light green below, darker green above. Calyx tube orange, petals white. Bark grey-black. 5034 Canarium - Bursaceae Tree, 15m tall, 35cm dbh. Lvs light green below with midveinum, darker above. Fruits light brown, 7x4 cm, calyx 1.5 cm across. Pericarp 1/2 cm thick, one locule aborting in the fruit not open. Fruit exudes a clear exudate.
