Hole 17 G.C. - Clay samples. Analysis #25 391 to 395. Light gray plastic clay underlying calcareous basterd clay. No apparent inclusions of limestone but some cracks show limny fillings. (Analysis #25) (Spec.(GC 171)) Others: Intewal ending 175 includes some finely silty carbonaceous claystone with coaly streaks at 168. Some calcareous film on coaly partings in this claystone. (No specimen). (2) (GC 172) Interval 296 to 299-8: Fragmental claystone of varying types. All highly siliceous no good flinty inclusions. (3) 308-6 to 315-3. (GC 173-174-175) This zone has minor amounts of fair flinty and blocky claystone interbedded irregularly or intimately mixed (irregular lamine) with siliceous claystone and mupperst, siltstone. Much included Fe occuring as red sparkles, or bordering fragments, or as streaks and laps between laminae. Green color predominates. Note proximity used to red beds. (4) 604 to 620. Flint clay seam of unknown grade and thickness penetrated in this run. Run included dark clayey siltstone, silty claystone, flint and minor brownish clay. No sign of siderite. Obvious but recovery for analysis. Flint (GC 176-177). 15
