Phil. Oct 5-1933 In 1927 Mrs Ametry paid 6200. She purchased the house in 1929 for 4000. Still owe on house 2310. Tax on when Phil purchased 5200 (1929) and now it is 3100. Phil has given Emma a note for $1300 (interest or face years) Phil must have to save at least $65.00 per month to live in his present house. This includes interest charge. To hold Phil's having at most than monthly paid $30.00 per month (= 4/10 interest and 20 as amortized).

Made $000 on his first trip. Promised to send him 200- 300 per year,

Alberta. Oct 7-1933 Second home cost 13,500 sold it for 14,000. Present home cost 12,000. Mortgaged. Got a loan of 2,000 and 1,000 recently borrowed. Weekly cost of living $5. Alice brings in about $65 per month. Albert doesn't bring in on the average more than $30 per month. Consequently money is behind to pay taxes, interest, insurance etc. Therefore the borrowing of 1,000. Will try to sell house but at present cannot get more than $8,000. Will then buy a time apartment house.

Emma Oct 8-1933 Emma was 5 years old when father died wt. Emma lives on Fifth St. Apartment costs 25 per month Includes heat. Has 3 rooms and 2 small ones, A pack. She can live on less than 700 pr year. "Schultheiss" means a chief magistrate of a com munity.

Lawn Club Mr Kiche Ellwatt $92.00 Dues $75 per year. With taxes. Single room at $45 per month. One window. No running water on a private bath. Have to use if a work room with shower. Another room has toilet mark tub and bath tub hard can use. Better take my work stand in room and use tub and pitcher of water. Room large enough to take my bureau and bed case. Sunday Dec 17-1933 Spent he afternoon again at St. Petersburg. Had dinner at Ponce's Martha, good. Was back at Clearwater 5:34 PM. For hotels at St. Petersburg try Cordial, Ponce de Leon or Dennis near Prince's Martha, The first Benz and tree in St. Petersburg is near Corner of Fourth Ave and Second St. Beside Flori de Leon Hotel.

January 1934 Clearwater, Fla. The general level of Clearwater along Fort Harrison Ave is not more than 30' above present sea level. It is the old Pleistocene sea bottom. At about 20'-25' above sea level is a wide spread shell bed replete with large gastropods, near the corner of Osceola Ave and Demands street (to fishpier) in the place where I made my collection. From Fort Harrison Ave out to the Gulf there are at least four terraces or slopes. These shells appear to be concentrated due to weathering and erosion carrying away the sand and drag the heavier shells behind.

"Elevation of Clearwater by first of Trust Co is 35'4"/10' above low water tide Tide 2' ? Mr. Blakeman heady Engineer Corps of Army had a survey made there. at Tarpon Spring Jan. 16 1934. Bought it last for $-85-. All are different and I do not have half the species. Will try again. Jan. 18. Mr Carter called. Runs Mrs Chapman. Wants to one late a drive with him. Jan (9, 1934

Tarpon Springs Jan 25-1934 Spent most of the day at Tarpon Springs looking for the flat white stares. Pictures from the sea at depths of 125 feet and less. There are the sponge fisheries of the Greeks. Another colony (maybe) to the north of Tarpon Springs and another at Key Biscayne. These boats 40-60 feet long go out into the Gulf of Mexico and dive as deep as 125' in diving snails, and the boats stay out up to four months depending on the catch. They go south to 240 miles out of and down the Florida coast for 175 mile northward voyage.

Feb 8-1934 Prof. Douglas Johnson called and had lunch with me at the Odeon Inn. Told me that Prof. W.M. Davis had died on Monday Feb. 5-1934. Then we looked at a little of the geology and he started back to his wife at 2:00. They are stopping near Tampa. Hamlin, auto man Johnson Douglas and his wife called on me early in March. Had lunch together.

[479] Can't down st to Village Feb, 24-1934 Lincoln Ave at first crest. The tr low land beyond County Club. From Ft, Harrison Ave (35') rises tr about 60-80. The descend to street Steaming Creek Trump Country Club at about 160'. The rises E in 1/3 mile to about 60'-65' Highland Ave at crest of first ridge, the E, fn. 1/4 mile a sharp swale, for the E. the second crest, putting 5 high. Oranewood Ave at top of low second crest. Further E, the road dips at about the second level. One block W. of County Club got some sheets.

Rm y Fl. Harrison are Feb. 24th '34. Looking E, one gets a good view of the 35' livel of Clarmeta, then the first ridge E, followed by the highest level at the village. Those have the trend of the present coast. The higher ridge drops away about one mile S. & N. of it. To the N. it appears to go further. May nots to the N. are still higher ridges than 80'. PJ Chittenden paid me a visit on March 9, 10 and 11. Stopped at Fort Harrison Hotel. Left for Delcand at 11 A.M. March 12 m a cold morning, and I went another to Tampa and spent today here after he left for the north. March 12-1934. By Bus with Chittenden to Tampa. Left 11 A.M. At Tampa 12.30. Truly to Ballast Point Park, about 4 miles N.W of Tampa. Got 61/2 of American coles and about as many shells.

Savannah De Soto - Rogers Tampa, April 2-1934 Left Clearwater on the 11:45 bus for Tampa. Had a light lunch and then took the Port Tampa trolley for Ballast Point about four miles to the N.W. Got about as many ants as before, but no one will ever again succeed in gathering what De Soto Burns collected for Shell - nearly 300 species of ant-lives, and 17 of queens. Left back to Osceola Inn at 7:30 P.M.

Clearwater, Florida. April 6-1934. Shipped by Express five boxes of shells, fruits and [illegible]. Sent receipt to Le Wene. Wrote a lot of letters. Packed up in the afternoon preparatory to leaving to momm. April 7-1934. Left Clear- water at 11:50 A.M. and got off at Savannah, Georgia at 9:50 P.M. Put up at Hotel Whitney. April 8, Walked about Savan- nah Sunday morning.

Worcester, Lenox, & Pa- fontoys. By Colonial Homes, Richmond, Barrett and Marie, 1933 Richmond, Virginia Got here at 10.15 P.M. Mon- day April 10-1934. The next day got to Williamsburg held capital of Va. at 12.30 P.M. and got back at 8.15. Stayed much as that, in to do here. Wednesday April 11, 1934 At July once did not go mine from to reach. Warm and dense rainy at night.

Belfast and [illegible] College, Chartered 1690, Feb. 8. Refound in 1699. In actual order of matric. sent to Harvard. Richmond, Va., Thursday April 12-1934. Left at 8.10 A.M. to get to New Haven at 6.30 P.M. New Haven, April 12-1934. Started to live at Lawn Club for dinner and had the even- ing (Thursday) of April 12-1934.

Trips to Washington and National Academy Left Ann Haven Sunday April 23-1934 at 12.32 P.M. Set to Washington at 7.15. Put up at Hamilton Hotel, Farell[illegible] Then tried to call on Cotten but couldn't find his apartment either on Chapin's or Belmont St. Then called on Olin Morley and Helen Corlidge at the Bronx apartments. April 24-1934, Monday Had lunch at Natl Acad. and talked with all the geologists present. Then to the Lincoln

Monument, the Folger and Congressional Library. In the evening attended the Hornel Lecture on The Realm of Retulac. Met Mrs Merrill. April 25 - 1934. Tuesday Listened to Eddington (abst) Millikan and Compton on the New Physics. Did not stay for Nat Acad Lunch. Called on Copen at H. S. N. M. from 1-3.30 P.M. In the evening attended the banquet of Nat Acads.

"Set between [illegible] Eddington and [illegible] Donaldson. Fairchild of Agri cultural Dep. got "Public Welfare Medal." Three other medals were present, I made the presentation speech for the Robert Pice award Medal to Dr. David White. All the Washingtonians are mirroring pleased and as well Mrs [illegible], Whites honorarium amounted to $1350. On Monday afternoon at the Bunier Meeting I was voted the Thompson Medal, and was con- gratulated first by [illegible]

"To Berry, Kn M, Bowman Mrs Merrill and others. Every one knows all about it except me. President Campbell said nothing of it, and evidently it is to be given me at the Fare Meet- ing at Princeton. This is the third time I have received foreign (A.A.B.C; Acad. of Norway, and the Thomp- on Medal). At Christmas time came the Penrose Medal.

April 25, 1934, Wednesday Called for my validated ticket, It was not got validated, but canceled. On the way back to Hamilton Hotel met Townsend just ar- rived for Saturday meeting of the Sect. Lect. of Nat. Research Council. Looked more and happy and I told him of White's getting the Robert Medal. He also felt good over it, but once on personal grounds than otherwise. Left N.Y. with Donato at noon.

A. M. N. N. New York April 26-1934. Prototherium richardsoni Coman, Virgin., Up Triassic Restorin made in Nesvott, Three size Mastodon & Bori cloth. Has a series of ontogenetic grows near as big as Protoceutips Lote of Skull just about 1/2 up to adult. F.B. Simpson now in Paris on way to Mynlin to collect Cret. mammals.

Saturday Sep 16 1934 Peter Redpath Jun. A fine diagram of the Caribbean for only $ or less, and then can be made into a good one. It would make a fine illustration from Text-book. The volcanoes are Mount Royal, St Helens & Venezuela, and Outcannon of Venezuela. (I think the text) Could have been done by the Ceylon but probably not the diagram. The most im- portant thing wanted. "How manifold are thy works, O Lord! All them in order than hast made". PS. CV. Could this go beneath important work? To show Demons are religious nature.

Almationitz slabs. Burns 6-7 inches wide, same width holes with foot prints such as a Limulus would make. The fig dug easily in the sand and made large loops to trap the dog. One of them has both legs outstretched and turning around in a circle. Of the Lagan (remaining) Cretin, "..." foot marks --- carry away { 7" across} --- foot pits Tracks such as to pass by Limulus would make. Anne Aglerped made three tracks, or divisions then maybe Aglerpids were with a croc. Five fine Laureatus slabs of Nora Dertca. But should resemble one both. From Dr Joggins. The following is taken from the Oedeman, Archaeozoon acadimae, look up Laureatum = Cryptogon after long isolated slabs at man's bed goes on earth.

All in all the Peter Red- path Museum is a fine small Museum of Soil and Soel, adequate for any fair class college. The main museum proper has don't contain outsets and big miners. On each side table cases, with plants. Around (the center) intermediate large pieces and table cases both for ornithographic collections. Back end of hall, a large mineral collection. Gallery for Geology and Coins. A splendid large collection of living shells and a quite collection of food booked specimens one living forms. This is the Carpenter Inhouse coll.

31/2 m. N. of St. Albans There is only one cyl. beneath the pre- cedent beds, valding as far S. as 45 yards W from here & passes th. to cyl. and to Highgate slate. The cliff is about 10 ft. The base of Carling Burying may con- tinue, and two great ridges (runs) on the Highgate slate. Piled around it and multiplies mainly, under north in the Carlin cygl. The trip came off to the vicinity of the Carlin cygl. N. Carling Burying S. Bircham fringe Highgate slate O = Steliferus Carlin Cygl.

Below the Corlin clay, has but little foreign material, and it is are [illegible] small becoming to differentiate there. Hidden smears bottles of these are introduced and try to come from once above out and lay them through the top. The stratified Corlin clay. appears to merge into the stratified material but this is primarily due to the bitterns having moved out the stratified beds during the caenic orogeny. The fossil beds are near from the growth end of the stratified beds about half way of its thickness. Is about 15-20 feet. Just one few transitions, for though I cannot get to a bay face. This stratified material begins with the Corlin clay, has to affect the center after the transition in the 15 [illegible]

Rochester N.Y. December 28 - 1934 Attended the C.S.A. meeting in the morning and a special dinner by Morse and Elias to the Kappa Alpha Psi's. At noon heard Pappert's Pre-Century Pres. Address. After lunch listened to two papers before the P.D., left for meeting at 4 p.m. and returned to Geneva Street to dress for the C.S.A. Banquet. At about 9 p.m. the Penrose Medal was awarded me by Prof. Regmond. It was a very joyous affair for me.

Rochester, N.Y. Dec. 29-1834 After breakfast took the 9:52 train for N.Y. A dark day, having snowed much during the night. Just about freezing. C.E. Selden of Rochester came aboard the train with me. "encountered three toric basalt dikes. Near the sharp turn on road the three dikes are well exposed on both sides of the road. One dike is very flat across strike and dips slightly over the granite (have a piece). The intermediate dike is split with very irregular walls; one side has 18" of basalt, than 12" of altered granite, and 12" of basalt. Some of the exposures are half inch across and sections run in 2 feet vertically. Shore normal pairs of it. The largest diame is 8 feet across, having pair of it. Obs of the granite here. The outcrop's pair the granite surface bottom dike. It is near to dikes and mostly altered basalt,

June 23-1935 Started down Cadillac Mt. at 11.15, and at 1.15 stopped at Buckfield in the old hotel for dinner. Then motored down to over side of Pentagret Bay to Rockland. Here to the east is island & North Haven with a Dillenia pins, and adjacent Finale Haven said to belong now to the Mroons - Liatygo. Then motored south on the Felt road coming at us Bath and Portland, Maine. Put up at the Long fellow Inn on East Parmenade.

June 24, 1935 Monday Left Portland at 9 A.M. in Sunny cool day. At 1:30 had lunch at the Tory House built in 1716 at Littleton Conn. Had dinner at The Clearwater Lodge on shore of Lake Pocotopaug, East Hampton, Conn. Left back to Linn Club at 8:30 P.M. All well this was a neww after trip with the Great House within.

July 12, 1935. At 8.30 to 10.30 at N.Y. State Museum. Then to Saratoga to see the Cryptogram Ledges. At 3.30 went East to Ball Eagle Mt. Ranied hearing ad did not make out much of it my complicated geology. Had a farewell dinner at the Wendell Hotel in Pitts- field. At back to Lamor Club at 11 P.M. Hot days with deep.

August 16-1935 At 9.30 A.M. started White Nts and Crawford Street at Crawford Nitch, N.Hamp. Got back on time at 6.20 P.M. Aug. 26 Min Le Vere and Min Timin had lunch with me at the Crawford House. Turned out to Min Le Vere to look for proof of the Index to my Antillean Book. Returned to N.H. on Thursday 8.50 A.M. Sep. 5 1935. Got to Lawn Club at 6 P.M.

December 5 - 1935 has confined with a cold to my room for some days, and got scared, and on this day started for Bradenton, Florida. Still go tough to wrest in warm sun and sunshines. Left Thursday at 7.30 P.M. and will arrive at Bradenton Saturday morning at 8.30. the sixth. On train Friday Fine sunny day. Got up sick with my cold hanging on, see a points down into N. Carolina, Saturday Dec 7, got to Bra- denton at 8.45 A.M. Put up at Hotel Manatee Rivin.

Sunday Aug. 30 - 36 Le. Fone-Timm called in their auto at t.45 and we had breakfast together. Then they took me to their "farm" about 3 1/2 m. S-E near Canaan. About the sheep herds and in the way they first one back to Itamar. Monday Aug 31- 36 The ladies called for me at 10.30 and we started off for Littleton M.I. Had lunch together at Thayers Hotel and I then got up. The ladies returned at me for their summer home.

Littleton M.14, Sep 1-36 The Tolger Hotel had too many smells, so I left at 9.30 for Bredon Forest putting up at Bredon Arms. Room with out bath and coming water was at 5/- per day. Elsewhere I should say my expenses for what I am to get. A cloudy cold day and the one craft is not too much.
