Pisgah Hilton Pisgah Crater powerline access road MAP 1 Straightforward from Berkeley to I5. Harris Ranch (exit 198, on left) about 115 miles past the intersection of 580 and I5, will come up around lunch time, and is the only place in I5 which doesn't serve American Cheese. Takes a bit longer than other fast food but can be worth it. From I5, follow signs to Bakersfield which will take you onto 58 (77 miles past Harris Ranch) and will lead you through the jog onto 43 and off again. Stay on 58 around the edge of Bakersfield and continue on 58 to Barstow (130 miles). 58 will dump you onto Barstow's main street. Turn left following signs to I40. There is a Safeway store on the left to buy last minute supplies and to fill up water canteens. Fill up gas tank. Follow this main street to the overpass (where I40 crosses over the main street). Take an immediate sharp right onto the on-ramp to I40 going east. Take I40 to the Newberry Springs Exit (18 miles). Turn right. This puts you onto National Trails Hwy. Go about 15 miles until you see a large powerline crossing the road. Turn onto the nearest dirt road heading south. After 1.9 miles the road enters the lava flow. 2.9 miles from National Trails Hwy, on the powerline road is the Pisgah Hilton.
