P.A. Kelly 1985 Journal 3 and the Shermans under Sagebrush and Creosote. The cooking crew put together a chili dinner. Caught one antelope ground squirrel (Ammospermophilus) before dark. Then for about 2 hrs we went snake driving along the National Trails Hwy (south of I-40). Most sane people hit the sack by 11pm after a long day. 2. May 20 Got up at 5.30 am and checked all the traps. Surprised to find lots of desert woodrats (Neotoma lepida) in both kinds of trap (about 10, 20% occupancy). Also lots of kangaroo rats mainly Dipodomys merriami also one Dipodomys microps. Also had 4 Peromyscus but only two Pocket mice (Perognathus formosus and P. longimembris). Closed all traps at 8am to prevent trap deaths due to heat stress. We broke up into four groups and scouted the lava flow for lizards and snakes. Some chuckwalls, whiptails and side-blotched lizards were caught. But our group only caught one horned lizard Phrynosoma. We returned to camp at noon for a sandwich lunch and tried to get some
