MAP 2 Take I 40 to the Kel-baker Rd Exit. Turn left, go under overpass. 0.2 miles beyond the overpass is a fork. Turn right onto Kel-baker Rd. Parts of this road are dirt and others paved. Continue for less than 20 miles. There will be a small rectangular sign about 3 ft tall and easy to miss, which says "Kelso Dunes 3.0 miles". Directly after the sign, turn left. Go 3 miles and park in designated area. Sheep Corral - Return on Kel-baker Rd. to I40. At the fork (the previously mentioned 0.2 miled from underpa overpass) turn down the left fork. This is a # dirt road with no name. Follow road for 0.7 miles (pay no attention to side roads). Take a right turn. This leads to Sheep Corral (a few hundred feet). MAP 3 Return to Barstow. Take 58 (follow signs to Bakersfield and 58) to crossroads of of 58 and 395 (35 miles). Go north (right) on 395 to Red Mountain (26 miles). Take right on 178 directly after Red Mountain, to Trona (about 30 miles). Fill up H Gas Tank. Continue north of Trona to Sunshine Drive and turn left. When road ends, turn left on 136. Less than 1.0 miles past Panamint Springs, is Darwin Rd (dirt road on the left). Follow dirt road for about 2 or 3 miles. There is a cryptic side road here. I will try to be there first to point it out. JUst as the Darwin Rd turns abruptly left and starts to climb, this side road is on the right over the birn. Drive very carefully and very slowly down the small immediate dip a in this side road and park whererer is possible. To go back to Berkeley): The map is straight forward. It's about 180 miles to Bakersfield.
