Meadow Larks, Cal. Purple Finch (singing), House Finches (singing, Breast-backed Goldfinch, Pine Siskins, Etc. Sparrows (Camp Evans), Pt. Binos Juncos (many, singing), Song Sparrows, Spotted Towhees, Brown Towhees, Saw-whet, (Free Calif. Snipe) (Santa Clara Valley), Warbling Vireo (many heard), Hutton Vireo, different Warblers, Audubon Warbler, Pipit (near Wilepitas), W. Winter Wren (heard), Tanny Creepers (singing), Chickadees, Bushtits, Nuthatch, Varied Thrush. No robins, Kinglets, Bluebirds or Water Angels - 33 species. Alders and willows, maples just coming into leaf- maples in bloom. Sycamores still bare. Water dogs laying eggs on sticks in water - like large grapes - Male and female copula- ting. 3rd (a male?) interfering - Did not come to surface for air. ?Fusiles remained on sticks all time we were watching (20 min.) Mar. 24. Another heavenly day. Many Nuttall and Intermediate Sparrows singing at mouth of canyon - a few Y-C Sparrows also. Hand call with, Mar. 25. Cooler. Foggy morning. Saw 3 isolated Warblers, R-C Kinglet came to front. Mar. 26. Cloudy, cool. Worked in garden. Mar. 27 " " " . " Mar. 28 " Mar. 29. Cloudy, moderate. Bird Class went to Joaquin Miller region: W. Flycatcher and Allen Hummer only summer visitors rem. Hutton Vireo heard. At Boy Scout Camp heard Red-breasted Nuthatch and saw flock of about 15 Varied Thrushes. Heard Golden-cr. Kinglets.
