1927 Feb. 22 (cont.) Vogors Wren singing. Allen Hummingbird heard. Feb. 23. Cloudy morning - rain in afternoon. Feb. 24. Rain in afternoon. Dinner at Faculty Club with Dr. and Mrs. Brinell to meet Mr. Russell - naturalist in Yosemite. He reported regular Fourth of July crowds in the valley each weekend. Much snow - Ice cone at Yosemite Falls. Many slides over rain. Feb. 25 Rain - Warm. Feb. 26. Clear with light N. wind. Went to Opera in S. F. Many gulls on bay - Brouapante, W. Calif. Ring-billed and more Glaucous- wrights than earlier. A few Surf Scoters - 1 Western Grebe, 1 large flock of Sandpipers. Feb 27. Clear with light N. wind - Walk in hills. Lutescent Warbler heard in Sunny Gulch - Lake Merritt 4:30 p.m. Very few ducks - About 20 Mallard, 20 Baldpates, no Pinkfeets, a few Canvasbacks. 1 Pelican, 1 Eared grebe. Feb. 28 Took walk with Janice 8:45-9:15 a.m., 17 species- 3 Lutescent Warblers, 1 Allen H., 1 House Wren (?), 6 Flickers, 2 Stellar Jays, 7 Calif. Jays, Meadow larks singing, 15(?) Brush- tits, 6 Spotted Towhees, 4 Brown Towhees, 3 Ruby-crowned Kinglet, 3 Vogors Wrens, 2 Song Sparrows, 3 Thrushes, 3 Ips. Warblers, 8 White-crowned Sparrows, 1 Titmouse, 1 Thrasher, 1 Robin, 1 Anna Hummingbird. Beautiful spring day.
