1925 June 29. Got a nurse, Housekeeper left - Birtha took me in Buick to for half hour Santa Monica Canyon. While she rested I took a walk and found the following birds: Sparrow Hawk, Quail, Aldora Hummer, Word Peice, Black Phoebe, Brewer Blackbird, Brown Towhee, Spurred Towhee, Song Sparrow, Linnnet, Thrasher, Mockingbird, Bush-tit, Cliff Swallow, Mourning Dove, Black-headed Grosbeaks, Blue Jay. Back in the marshy land there were Barn Swallows, Bicolored Redwings, Killdeer, and Linnets. July 7. In Griffiths Park across from Glendale, there were Blue Jays, Blackbirds, Bushtits, Goldfinches, Hummers, Phainopepla (avered), Wrentits, Brown Towhees, Linnets. In the aviary was one forlorn Golden-crowned Sparrow which came to my side of the cage whenever I whistled its three notes. July 8. Went out to Claremont and then to Pomona for the night. July 9. Flora took me in her Hudson Coach through Brea Canyon to Fullerton, Whittier and then to the end of Stephenson Ave. where I boarded a St. Car and drove across the city to 4536-18 th St. to Birtha's house again.
