Oct.9 - Heavy rain late afternoon and all night. Oct.10 - Lake Merritt - 10 a.m. Sinitail (ab.300), Baldpates (ab.75) Wallards (50?); Ruddy's - very few. No Canvas backs or Spoonbills. 1 Eared Grebe, 1 W. Grebe. A few Huthins & Snowgrouse Oct. - soiled out improving. In Bay - 31 Cormorants counted on top of deep water advertising board near auto ferry route. Many Sandpipers in water near end of 7th St. Warm. Oct. 11, 12 - Warm. Crows Sparrows very abundant and singing Oct. 13 - Saw a Varied Thrush in Mrs. Deans garden. Flew from ground into tree when dog barked as we passed about 5 p.m. Later flew across road and to top of Eucalyptus tree. Oct. 14 - Fog and cloudy most of day - A lone robin came to bathe in pool at dusk. Had great difficulty in balancing, especially in top of oak tree where he flew to dry his feathers. Bluejay took two of melon seeds put out for Titmouse. The large flock of quail which has been missing since the end of Aug. when we stopped putting out seed because we were painting the porch came back today. Oct. 21 - A number of Juncos have been at the fountain and some have come on the porch. None have been seen on the table. A Fox Sparrow sang several times while feeding on the table. Several Varied Thrushes have been seen during this past week and a W. Winter Wren
