1926 Sept. 27. Heard Golden-crowned Sparrows several times during the day - Also Ruby-crowned Knights. Heard Hermit Thrush again and W. Last night was quite chilly. Warm in middle of day- Sept. 28, 29, 30. All winter visitors here in numbers. Oct. 1. Rained all day and most of night - 1 1/4 in. Oct. 2. Clear, beautiful day. Fox Sp., Song Sp. Sp.Torhee & Int. Warbler at pool together Oct. 3. Saw a Sharp-shinned Hawk. A flock of about 12 quail n. 3 young came to table for seeds. Have not been putting out seed for several weeks because of repairs and painting of porch. Noticed Golden-crowned Knights near Vermie's Merrery near Addison Arlington Ave. More abundant than Ruby-cr-Knights so far. Oct. 4. Strong E. wind last night. Hot day - 2 Ruby-crowned Knights feeding near together in oak trees came within six feet of me in the garden. One sang frequently. Audisun Warblers heard. Golden Crowned sp Int. Sp. singing freely - Also Thrasher. Oct. 5-8. Indian Summer. Tanagers gone. Winter birds abundant. esp. G-c. Sparrows, Int-Sp., G-c. Knights, R-c. Knights - Fox Sparrows come frequently for water and bath. Hermit Thrush not so common. Flocks of Robins fly over often and sometimes found new house. A small flock of quail came each morning for seeds - 6 males, 3 females, 3 young-moulting.
