Mar. 22. Warm. Male Tit calls to female in box. If she does not come out he goes to entrance and feeds her. Mar. 23. Warm. Canyon full of intermediate Sparrows in full song. Flock of 25-27 quail came as usual. Townsend Warbler a few Golden-crowned Sparrows, Willow Woodpecker birds Fox, Song Sparrows, Towhees, Titmice, Bushtits, Kinglets etc. Cobles of birds - Hermit Thrush singing softly - Mar. 24. Band-tail Sparrow appeared on table with another unbanded. Quail near house giving call on guard - clear whistle - Heard Dilated Warbler - intermediate Sp. everywhere - Great migration of butterflies northward across the mouth of the canyon. Noticeable along lower Rosewood Rd., Panoramic Way and Prospect St. to Dwight Way. Very warm. Mar. 25. Warm. Flock of quail came - eager for seeds Heard Warbling Vireo from house. Willow Woodpecker still about. Int. Sp. still singing. Come for water. Hermit Thrush singing. Mar. 26. Went with ladies to Golden Gate Park. Cooler. Overcast in early a.m. but clear later. Left Berkeley at 8 a.m. Saw on bay: Western Gulls - 12-15 - Loon - 3 Common Gull - a few Lesser Scaup - 2 or 3 flocks Surf Scoter - "" Glauorous-v. Gull - Sev. Western Gull - few - Calif. Gull - many - Herring Gull - several Brown-backed Gull - many
