1926 Mar.16. Cool, cloudy - Knights singing Song Sparrows mating - Mar.18 - Rain - a little. Mar.19 - Clear. Warm. Went with ladies class to Claremont Hotel grounds where we found birds very abundant. New arrivals were: Western Flycatcher and Warbling Vireos. Winter visitors were Ruby-crowned Knights, Golden- crowned Knights - both in small flocks -, a few Golden-crowned Sparrows, a very few juncos, a good flock of Audubon singing Warblers and the Hermit Thrush. (Intermediate Sparrows were singing on the hill near home.) Summer birds were Allen Hummers, W.Flycatchers, Lutescent Warblers, Warbling Vireos and House Wren. Per. Residents were: Willow Woodpecker, Flicker, Coast Jays(many), Calif.Purple Finch, Calif.Linnet, Grumb. Goldfinch, Pine Siskin, Eng. Sparrow, Santa Cruz Song Sparrow, Spotted Towhee, Brown Towhee, Thrasher, Vigors Wren, Coast Bush-tit, W.Robin. 26 species. Mar.20. Warm - Partly cloudy - Heard Cillolated Warblers in canyon near home - Large flock of Intermediate and Nuttall Sp. came to bathe. Fox and G-c. Sparrows on food table. Future flock of quails came for seed. Mar.21. Very warm. N.mist. Drove to Golden Gate Park and beach where we had our lunch.
