Haywards (10p.m. to 2a.m). Beautiful balmy day - Many Crows near Brentwood; Great Blue Heron, Marsh Hawks, Blackbirds in delta lands, Large flocks of Sparrows w. white tail feathers - Dark Sparrows? Oct. 27. Beautiful day. Low fog over town hid everything beyond the stadium except the clock tower of campanile which stood above in clear sunshine. Titmouse came repeatedly to table for bird seed. Took away one seed at a time to branch where it held the seed between its toes and hammered it with its beak to take off shell. Oct. 28. Fox Sparrows came to pool. Warm. Oct. 29. Hot - east wind. Nov. 3. Fox Sparrows and Hermit Thrushes common. Nov. 7. Large flocks of Audubon Warblers come into the canyon to feed on the moths which are still flying. Most of the trees have put out new leaves. Nov. 8. Weather continues pleasant. Nov. 12. Flock of Intermediate and Golden-crowned Sparrows came to pool. Thrasher, two Wrentits and Hermit Thrush feeding on Cal. Holly berries by window. About 30 quail come every morning for seeds. One Blue Jay eats seed also. Have talk to S.F. Audubon in evening - Heavy rain in early afternoon - Nov. 13. Brilliantly clear after rain.
