Sept. 12. Clear, warm - light N. wind. Walked up canyon & Botanical garden.
Saw 3 Black-throated Gray Warblers. Hummingbirds as abundant
as on Aug. 8; apparently 3 kinds - Anna, Allen, Calliope - in tobaccos fields:
diet: Caley Jay, Coast Jay - both abundant - visited elderberry bush with ripening
Black Phoebe, Black-throated Gray Warblers, Anna, Allen & Calliopes Hummers,
Vigors Vren, Thrasher (singing), Bach-tito, Wren-tits, Linnets, Goldfinch,
Purple Finch, Song Sparrow, Titmouse.
Mrs. Leavens reported W. Flycatcher.
Sept. 13. Warm, sunny day - No wind. Heard Tanagers near house. No thrushes.
14. Hot, no wind. Robins at dawn and evening.
16. Heavy fog all morning. Sunny p.m. Autogone in Gk Theater.
17. Black-throated Gray Warbler in oak tree in garden.
19, 20. Very hot - no wind - except a few gusts from N.E.
21. Cooler. Thrasher still imitates Blue-sided Flycatcher but not as well.
22. Cooler. Fog at night. Large flock of quail came into garden.
first I have really seen for some time. Titmouse comes
frequently for melon seeds. Song Sparrows, 2 Tanlcers and Blue
Jays only other birds that come for food and those not often.
Brown Towlees are feeding on elder berries - very awkward in efforts
to get at berries. Occasional flocks of Brewer Blackbirds have
flown over at dawn. Not established yet.
24. Hutton Vireo heard frequently near house. Vigors Vren and
Song Sparrow singing. Cooler.
