Dark Sparrows Linnets in Barbaches and Lawrence Goldfinches (ab.), Lazuli Bunting Black-headed Grosbeak (Blue Grosbeak ((female?)), Brown Towhee. Spotted Towhee (in dusty clup canyon), Phainopeplas (abundant), Cedar Waxwings (large flocks feeding on lujon berries), Cliff and Baam and Violet-Green Swallows, Coll. Jay, Crow (1 W-of Livermoor) House Wrens, Vegors Wren, Thrasher (heard once), W.G.natecateless (ab.), Titmouse, Sluder-bills Withatch (1), W.Vires, Hutton Vires, Cassin Vires. Lutescent Warbler(heard once), Yellow Warbler (ab.), Pit. Warbler (heard once), Western Bluebird (ab.). Total 48. May 12, 13. Clear, sunny but cool breeze. May 16 - Commencement day. At 3 p.m. started on trip to Lake Cs. via Napa, Calistoga, Middletown, Lower Lake. Clear, cool. Napa Valley green and lovely. Spent night at Mollie Patton's on Mt. St. Helena. Warm May 17. In morning climbed to Stevenson monument and Quicksilver mine. and Westward. Napa Valley filled with fog. James heard Mt.Quail. A W.Flycatcher has her nest on a Bautvin rose under porch roof, absolutely open to view on end of large trunk of the vine thus: . Cassin & W.Warbler Vires, House Wrens, Willows Woodpecker, Black-headed Grosbeak, Black-thr. Gray Warblers, Lutescent and Yellow Warblers, Purple Finch, Linnets, Chipping Sparrows prominent. A Robin has its nest in small tree back of house and an Olive-sided Flycatcher called from top of a dead tree just above the Stevenson monument. Saw just Dark Sparrows east of Middletown. Also Kildeea & Strike.
