Found following birds on first 500 ft. of our lot: (6) Quail, Willow Woodpecker (ps)
W. Flycatcher, Allen Hummingbird, Purple Finch, G.b. Goldfinch, Song Sparrow
Spotted Towhee, Grosbeak, Warbling, Hudson and Cassin Vireos. Paleolates, Lutescent,
Black-Throated Gray, Yellow Warbler, Chickadee, Bush-Tit. Returned to [illegible]
Red-tail.
Apr. 22. Bright, warm day - fresh breeze. Bush-tits feeding young in nest.
Apr. 24. Found Calliope Hummingbirds at upper end of Strawberry Canyon. Male
perched in willow eight feet from me so I could see the V shaped gorget,
the gray green of back. Also went through pendulum uttering a long drawn
out thin zee-ee-ee at bottom of arc.
Apr. 25. Donny going on Lutescent Warbler's nest. Young in Titmouse's box calling quite
loudly. Quail often seen in pairs.
Apr. 27. Cricle heard, singing and calling in oaks below house. Quail on guard.
Apr. 28. Beautiful weather. House men came to pool.
Apr. 29. Warbler (Black-throated Gray or Hermit) singing near house. Air full
of calls of young birds (Bush-tits, Lutescent warblers and Titmice).
Cassin Vireos heard 1/4 of house early in morning. Steam shovel still
working day and night in upper canyon. Beautiful weather.
Apr. 30. Cooler but still beautiful.
May 1. Fresh breeze fr. North. Very clear. Lutescent Warblers and Bush-tits
flew from nests. Family of bush tits (9 +/-) in small oak next road
below house keeping very close together - 4 on one branch. Lutescent W. being
fed in hazel near nest. Titmouse still in box. Bush-tits still
in nest in oak tree in street.
